Dave's Fabia after a bit of work (5 Jan 08)

Featured Replies

Have copied this over from Edition 38, thought u guys might be interested. :)

Right guys, I have been off Uni for a couple of weeks over Chrimbo and as such I decided to give the car a bit of detailing.

I'm afraid the pics aren't the best, but will have to do lol!

Started off by washing the car, then claying her (using Megs clay kit).

Then applied the meguiars 3 step system, working hard at all stages but replacing step 3 with 2 coats of NXT Tech wax. As I mentioned earlier, there were quite a few swirls on the bonnet especially, and although I managed to get most out, there are still some lurking.

Oh well, pics.

I gave the wheels a good clean, then applied Megs Polish (2 times), then 3 coats of some Poorboys wheel sealent I got over Xmas. On a side note, OMG how nice does that stuff smell lol! Need to do the wheels with another coat every couple of weeks really to keep on top of em. Also applied 2 coats of Megs endurance tyre gloss, first time I have used the endurance stuff and am quite impressed with it.

I also decided to do some arch work on the fronts to stop the wheels catching. And as a result they don't catch at all unless I am on a lot of steering lock and hit a big bump. Cracking lol!

I also bought a Snooper Indago Sat Nav system after Chrimbo, they RRP at £399 and I managed to get it for £170 through Amazon with £99 worth of free Speed camera updates so was quite impressed lol!

Future Mods

Also, have been having a think of future mods i want to do to the car. Even though i am now skint because I have just had to renew my insurance lol!

Colour Code Door handles - Car is going into the booth next thursday.

Get Milltek exhaust position raised higher into bumper recess.

Black A pillars

Powder coat rear calipers in red to match fronts.

Nothing engine related as of yet as I am too skint and could do with getting another years no claims under my belt.

Comments welcome as always.

Dave

Great post! :)

Loving those Porsche brakes! My God! I am presuming they are pretty damn fantastic!?? I'm afraid it would be too low for me though, but a great looking car!

Cheers,

Jon

OMG that car is pure porn..

ill swap you my remapped vrs for it?

Will be perfect with colour coded handles and red rear calipers

Very nice looking car...but - do you put tyre dressing on the steering wheel as well?

  • Author

LoL, no don't put tyre dressing on the wheel lol! Come to think of it I have never cleaned the wheel for fear of my hands slipping off it lol! :)

Thanks for your comments guys, however I would like to keep the car thanks jasc1988 lol!

Also, Mossman in answer to your question the brakes are certainly better than the standard brakes lol! They have got Textar pads in which are the standard Porsche pads and they don't work brilliantly when cold, but when they get hot they are very good! There is a lot more feeling to the pedal now as well.

i'm now looking for some of those brakes,i don't need them exactly, but i want them they are porn, later this year maybe, beutiful car mate:thumbup:

How firm are your springs mate? You've got not a lot of room on those arches with the rims.

I spunked all my money on as a student on fruit machines and beer, if only I'd known what could be had!

Are those brakes essentially the same 4 pot setup as the LCR? Or are they "soooper duper" in some other way.

 Nice motor though - I'd never have my car that low again as I'd be rubbing all the time (I have more comfortable springs now) and when your wheels are spaced out as much as yours and mine are, it's rubbing on metal arch, not just plastic wheel liner.

sex

very nice....

Deonutopia - Hi mate, I am not sure on the spec of the Brembo kit to be honest. After I PM'd u ages ago I didn't take them any further and moved onto the Porsche stuff. Are the brembo's two pot or four? I suppose if the piston number and diamters were the same then they would indeed be the same. The discs are bigger than the LCR setup though.

My wheels don't actually catch at all at during normal town driving on the arches. The only time they catch is when I have got a load of lock on and hit a big bump but I am going slowly when this happens that it doesn't worry me. I have thought about having the arches pulled out just slightly but haven't had it done yet.

For everyone who is asking I am running Weitec coilys with adjustable rebound. They have been set as stiff as they will go since I bought them pretty much and in my experience with other cars they are not a harsh ride at all. I feel they are too soft if anything.

Oilburninnit - It's alright, I don't need the brakes either lol! But it certainly beats the standard brakes! :)

Hot damn that car is LOW....:D

Scuffety scuff scuff.....especially with passengers I'll bet.

Red does look good when detailed though. My favourite colour for that kind of treatment, narrowly beating Peugeot China Blue.

Wish I'd bought a red one now.....sniff... :(

EDIT: You just beat me to it with your post. So the rear doesn't catch, even over speedhumps etc?

Lol! No mate the rear hasn't cought once since I put the wheels on. I spaced the rear wheel out so that the tyre shoulder sat literally just inside the arch on the move. I can't get the rear any lower at the back on the Weitec's unfortunately :thumbdwn:.

Nice. :)

It's actually tasteful too considering it's fairly modded up. You've avoided Lexus light clusters and TSW Venoms. :D

Love the car, preffered the look of the OZ wheels though. Love the ride height.

I suspect the brakes are 4 pot like the LCR brembos. Certainly look a lot like mine, but with porsche sticker on them, not brembo like mine. :)

Still, nice motor. You need to get down to TRAX in September - will be a very nice furby to have on the stand.

Well the Porsche brake calipers are made by Brembo and have a brembo part number on them. I guess the way to find out is too see if the part number is the same on mine as ures. I might be wrong but I think the profile of the Porsche calipers is slightly bigger than ure brembo's, but can't be sure. Are ures made from Aluminium?

Would love to come toTrax as its not to far from me really, will have to see nearer the time but thanks fro the invite.

Dave

Stunning Dave! the brakes and wheels do it for me. May I ask however what spacing have you got on your wheels front and back - and what are the width of the alloys? I know they are 18's?

I only ask as I have just ordered some OZ Superturismos in 18X8 fitment and am wondered how they will look with respect to if they will sit within the arches or protrude slightly?

Once again though Dave, absolutely beautiful.

how much where the brakes all in???? did they have to be adapted??

I think "megabucks" is the answer to the first Q - I believe he's used 20mm adaptors to make the 5x100 into the porsche fitting - so in effect they're spaced by 20mm, hence sitting out as far as they do. I have mine sat out 15mm all round to clear my brakes - Had to due to running simliar brakes to porshce ones.

The wheels are 8" wide all round fella. Your OZ wheels won't stick out of the arches particularly as long as you have got them with pretty near the correct offset for the Fabia. However, I ran with 215 tyres on an 8" rim with my OZ Ultraleggeras to help with the catching issue on the front arches when I lowered it. You may find it different though. Let us know how you get on mate.

Thanks for the knid comments by the way, I am sure OZ super t's will look cracking on a Fabia in 18"

Dave

Those Porsche brakes are sexual...

Your car looks Awesome!!! I've loved seeing it with all 3 different wheel options you've fitted. And the lowness is spot on! Looking forward to seeing it with a few more mods you've mentioned. Keep up the good work and pictures!

lol i've allready changed mine for the 312's i might change again after i've sorted a few other bits tho:thumbup:

Porsche rims are circa ET52, meaning 20mm adaptors gives an effective ET of 32 :)
