My windows were steaming up and i checked the carpets and they seemed dry. Wasnt until i thought bugger it ill do the cards inside the doors anyway and took the panels off that i discovered they were leaking when water dripped out if the back of the card. Moral of the story is the carpets dont need to be really wet to find you have water leaking in the car as teedeeye has pointed out

Anyway I get this problem too, but usually clears itself up clearly with ac unless there is heavy condensation. Gonna check my carpets, and see what of the above advice helps. Useful thread cheers.

What is the repair needed to stop water leaks? Do they just add new seals? I pick up my Fabia 1.9 TDI Elegance Estate.next week. Wife noticed a drip of water on carpet by rear o/s door salesman said it was just cos of very wet weather(it was raining hard.) Carpets felt dry.:confused:

Just pop to homebase and buy some own-brand roof and gutter sealant

its black and needs no gun, bead it all the way around between the door carrier and bodywork then smooth in

worked a treat

place a few table spoons of salt in a pot and place in footwell overnight this helps to absorb the moisture be sure to change it ever day and not to drive around a spill it!it seems to work for me but its down to leaky door seals which i need to pay attention to.

I had a word with the Skoda dealer who has the Fabia I'm getting Wed. He says they will check and replace any faulty door seals before I collect. Two things..Do the seals need to be replaced periodically or will the new seals cure it, Also has anyone had rusting or rot probs. due to this water ingress??:confused:

It's not the door seals, it's behind the door card.

They need sealant put around them.

i think my doors are leeking but i havent had chance to look yet as its always dark or raining,

i got a dehumidifyer (sp) from morrisons for £4 its some form of crystals in a vented box it does work to some extent, some days my windowscreen is that bad i have to use a rubber thing like what window cleaners use because its that wet

Finally sorted my misting problems :)

Changed the pollen filter which was totally clogged with leaves and cack (last changed August 2007).

Excuse my scepticism, but does the solution here really address the problem ?

The solution being advocated is that the SEAL BETWEEN THE DOOR CARRIER AND THE OUTER DOOR COMPONENTS needs to be remade - this is located INSIDE the door and should not be confused with the black WINDOW SEALS which are visible from OUTSIDE the door.

Whilst this solution, if done properly, will, in all likelihood, prevent the symptoms appearing i.e. wet carpets and wet door card, IT WILL NOT ADDRESS THE REAL CAUSE - WATER INGRESS INTO THE DOOR, VIA THE WINDOW SEALS FROM OUTSIDE THE CAR.

If this solution alone is followed, I would anticipate that the water that is presently seeping into the rear passenger will simply BUILD_UP IN THE DOOR AND RUST THE INTERNAL DOOR COMPONENTS.

I suspect that water is getting in through the WINDOW SEALS and therefore they will need to be dealt with.

I had a MK I Golf for 16 years and whilst it had other problems (And they were major), it never had leaky windows, and it was never garaged at any time ! The window seals used on the Fabia seem top be different from the Golf. Whilst the Golf had rubber seals which kept their flexibility during its life, the Fabia appears to have a synthetic material (PVC ?) seals and I suspect that these shrink/stiffen with age (Remember how vinyl fooring used to shrink ?), thus letting the water in (Cost saving ?)

So, a proper repair would include replacement of these.

Further, I would suggest the U-shaped rail (The limit stop for Window glass movement ?) welded to the outboard face of the carrier would also need to be treated - drain holes drilled to prevent water building up in it.

Interestingly, in the past cars had a polythene sheet installed between the door card and the door carrier ! I don't think the Fabia has these.

Note: From what I understand there are at least two types of door. The earlier type where the door carrier was bolted to the outer door and the joint formed sealed with a continuous neoprene seal and the later type where the door carrier is rivetted to the outer door and mastic is used to seal the joint (Presumably more cost shaving in the later run of production).

In summary, I'd say :-

Get your window seals replaced

Get your door seals renewed

Get the window stop drilled

Any body else got views on this ?

Also can anyone tell us what they had repaired (If they know) and how effective the repair was

As a rider to the above,

One presumes that all these cars and their components underwent extensive testing prior to production and prior to release, including some "Lifetime" and "Destruction" testing - recall the U-tubed VW film recently posted on this site ?

My ARB went at 20,000 miles

Oil consumption went crazy at 25,000

and now windows at 32,000.

How come these typical Fabia problems, given the frequency of reports by customers now, weren't detected then ?

Hrmmmm ?

Well I washed the car today and found my left hand passenger side back carpet wet, not too bad so letting it dry out a bit before I stick another mat down.
