Steamy Windows in my Fabia VRS

Featured Replies

Hi all

Introduce myself,

Dave, from Larkhall lanarkshire

Got a 07 plate fabia vrs special edition (252) for anyone who asks

Cracking motor

Except for the fact the windows steam up, need to have the blowers on most of the time,

We had a fabia comfort 52 palte had same problem,

just put it down to fabia problem, anyone got any ideas?

Cheers

Chracking forum btw

Check under the mats in the rear footwells. There is a known design problem with the rear door seals which allows water in. Dealers should fix it under warranty, they did mine.

Thanks for that,

Previous motor had same problem.....

Pax front seat has stuck, not moving back or forward, going back to dealers for fix...

Will get them to look at the hesitation and the leak same time.

Thanks

Dave.

I might be barking up the wrong tree here, but not so long ago by windows kept on steaming up all the time when it was wet outside. Checked the rear carpets etc and were fine. I then cleaned the inside of my windows thoroughly to get the greasy layer off them and it hasn't done it since. :)

since i used an anti mist cloth the windows have misted up regularly, but if i use the autoglym window cleaner cream it doesnt, well rarely does.

do you havr your aircon on? you should run your aircon all the time... this will dry the air, and keep the windows clear...

in my fiat its on constantly, and I dont have any problem until the temp drops below 4 celcius, where it turns itself of to prevent damage..., only then do I need to turn the fan up , and put it to the "demist" position...

note: this also helps to keep your aircon healthy... no probs when it comes to summertime again ;)

air con switches off at 5 or below, not much use at this time of year either and will be another thing that will cause the misting when it becomes less than 5c.

Clean your windows well and then apply a thin film of Fairy Liquid, buffing well to avoid greasy swirls. This also prevents steaming.

That's about the ONLY thing I miss about my old Focus - it had a heated front screen which was ace when the windows were steamed up or icy.

Before getting out the car, close the front vents manually and point the vent dial to the "feet" setting so as to close the windscreen vents also. I promise it won't mist up now.

i thought the air con runs all the time whether button is on/off to stop air con probs in the summer

But you shouldn't have to do that each time! My Fabia didn't steam up and I left the air con on all the time, fan speed 1 and pointing at windscreen.

If you run the air con and also need heat wont it remove all the heat from the air before it blows it into the cabin. Misty windows is 1 thing but i do like the inside of the car warm too???

No,aircon cools the incoming air before it's heated. Both my vrs's steamed up more than any other car i've owned for no apparent reason.Carpets were bone dry in both of them.As reported by others, keeping the glass clean helps as does putting the fan on recirculate and directing flow to the feet before switching off.The conclusion i came to was that i get in and out a lot - plus quite a few short jouneys , so although the doors don't leak, the carpet type mats were quite often a bit damp from getting in and out with wet feet especially in winter, enough to cause misty windows.

Mine always steams up to. I always run with the aircon on and it has now got to the point where it is dangerous. If I turn the aircon off at anytime it steams up quickly. The rear footwells are not wet and I have checked pollen filter, bone dry, and also checked under front scuttle panel for leaf blockage, none. Dealer could find no reason either. Getting very annoying. When I get into the car of a morning the windscreen is dripping wet with condensation.

It is much worse in cold wet weather. In the summer there was no real problem.

Role on the sunshire

I am allso a member of the steamy windows club, I do all of the above and still steamy windows dealers have looked at it several times and they can't find anything wrong with, carpets are dry and still have dripping wet windows with condensation. I can't belive that a modern car suffers from such a simple problem, when you see older cars in cars parks with out this problem, why can't Skoda solve this simple and dangerous problem

The car as hole is very good is just let down by poor build quailty

if you have the air setting on "re-circulate" instead of "introduce fresh from outside" it will tend to steam up much more than usual.....

have you checked that?

bren

Make sure you put the dial to recirculate when you lock the car, then back to fresh air when you enter, this is really important. Also, if you haven't done this in a while, change the pollen filter.

Also do this: drive the car for a while until the interior is really really warm, with the vents pointing at the glass as much as possible. Then pull over and put a thin coat of glycerin on the windows, and wipe it off after half a minute or so. Use paper towels to clean the glass thoroughly.

Running the aircon from time to time is good too, as is opening one of the rear windows a bit.

Mine has the same problem, will have a look tonight when I get back.

Davy

SWMBO had had this problem in her Furby for some time, and I've been meaning to check it out.

Yesterday, I finally managed to get home in daylight when it wasn't raining, and what a surpsise - wet rear carpets , and indications that 3 of the doors are leaking. The only one that wasn't is the drivers door - the one used most often:confused:

Anyway, I'll have a search on here for the solution, and try to get it done over the weekend (weather permitting).

Well I'm going to have a look tomorrow when I clean the car, don't fancy having another damp car, my last one had a problem with the boot leaking.

I think I read in a post that the drain holes under the scuttle panel get blocked and then there is water sitting there. The blower intake then draws air in from this area which is obviously very moist and causes misting up. Can anyone confirm this? If it is so then I'm gonna try and remove the scuttle panel and have a clear out under there.

A few words of wisdom for those who believe their carpets are dry.

Owning an older Fabia I've had my fair share of door leaks to contend with and so I thought I knew all the things to look out for when the dreaded condensation returned.

This winter - once again, the steaming windscreen issue manifested itself. As ever, the first thing I checked was the carpet in the rear foot wells. I have the Skoda rubber over mats and you would have thought that if any moisture was present in the carpet it would be easy to detect feeling under the mats - not so, everything felt bone dry! It wasn't until giving the car a good vacuuming with a very strong suction hose that the moisture showed up. There is obviously quite a thick layer of under felt and this is where the dampness lurks. It seems to draw and hold any liquid away from the carpet rendering the surface apparently dry. The vacuum actually pulled some of this moisture visibly to the surface. I guess it's much like disposable nappies etc!

I think I've finally cured the leaks again but how long it will take for the under felt to fully dry I hate to think - probably July!
