Knocking Noise - Passenger rear

Featured Replies

Hi forumrees

Hope you can help with this problem. My Fabia has developed a knocking noise from the passenger rear side each time I go over a bump, it seems to be located in the rear wheel area. I have tried to (with the hatch up) to push the car up and down and it makes a small clunking noise, but springs back in the same way the driver's side rear does. I have examined beneath but can't see anything obvious. Could the rear shock have gone and if so how can I be sure? Any ideas how much to replace?

Thanks in advance.

Have a look at where the rear seats mount, mine was making a knocking noise and it turned out to be the seats, one way to diagnose this is to remove the rear seats then go for a drive

Could also be the shock mount at the top. They don't last forever. :)

Only a small cheap part and a DIY job t fit. ;)

could be your arb bushes or drop links, it can appear that the noise is coming from the rear but it's not.

Another possibility is a broken spring on the front I'd get it into a garage and get it looked at.

I have a similar knocking on my 04 VRS. After a few trips to the dealers to check if it was the known front ARB issue (which was eventually replaced anyway!!) the knocking 'moved' from where I thought it was (in the front) to somewhere around the front passengers door/floor area... then the drivers side...

Now I get this dull (metal on metal) knock when going over small bumps, speed bumps, sometimes when cornering... and mostly when going slowly. It sounds like something(s) has come away within the doors or floor of the car.

I've just been a little bit too reluctant to start pulling door panels off to get at the internals...
