Octavia II vrs Speaker Upgrade HELP!

Featured Replies

I am no stranger to any aspect of car DIY for maintenance or upgrades, just to set the scene.......

I have the front door cards off the car at present and have removed one of the devils own creations (aka OEM speaker / mount amalgam).......looks like, unlike the Mk5 Golf, the speaker is a 7" jobbie and moulded all into one with the mounting stand-off.

How farkin stoopid eh?

So, I have some 6.5" infinity components to fit and just wondered that's the current thinking on achieving ICE heaven in this respect?

I have previously made adapter rings from MDF for a similar project on the Mk1 Octavia I also have..........but this looks like a different ball game !

Any advice gratefully received!

Muchas Grathias.......FOXY!

Pictures please?

I was under the impression the Octy II speakers are riveted in.

Certainly heard of new door cards being fitted without new speakers.

I have indeed removed the speakers by removing the devil's fixings (pop-rivets).

You can hopefully see which is existing OEM crap and the aftermarket slightly less crap.

Stu- will have a look at your link thanks

He's Ian - I'm Stu.

Might be a little late now but I don't think there is anything wrong with the OEM ones.

D'oh !!

By the way Stu - while the car was stripped out I got the BT loom installed, but found it easier to route up inside the centre tunnel carpet.......the loom looked a tight fit otherwise!

Yeah it is pretty tight but I can manage to get them in ok.

I suspect it is much easier with a stripped out motor.

Are you nearly ready for the road now?

He's Stu, I'm not.:P

Quite impressive pictures there.

Much more fun if you do it outside JKM's at a RR Day. Not!

Nice steering wheel - are you sticking with the VW badge or have you manged to get it off? It's the only thing stopping me at the moment.

Having just looked at those photos I would say you were being a tad modest there :P

That's in fact a loaner wheel off an 07 Jetta.

I did in fact also have a 4-spoke L&K MFSW with airbag that I just sold.

I'm sticking with OEM 3-spoke VRS.

DO NOT try to change the badge on the airbag!!!!! it would be a lethal projectile in the event it was triggered, and not properly fixed.

Impressive - a few years ago my Dad and I built a Lotus Seven Replica from scratch - broke a Mark II Escort, made a space frame chassis ourselves and rebuilt the crossflow engine. Massive project - took a 1000 hours in total over 8 months

It was great furn, hard, but worth it.

Looks like you are having some fun there too!!

Foxy, having just seen your pic's, What are you doing with the engine half out and no interia in the car?

Carrying out some 'minor' repairs I think.

Carrying out some 'minor' repairs I think.

Glad it was nothing serious

Might as well get lots of Dynamat etc in there while everything is out :P

You might be right........

Is that a fixed or variable service you're carrying out there???

A slight dent required polishing out the body work!!! I decided to remove the engine to make the repair easier and cheaper. The interior was removed to avoid damage when in the bodyshop.....a valuable policy and easy to implement.

The car's only done 1200 miles and it seemed all wrong taking the engine out !

Looks tidy though mate.

Hopefully will make a nice car - Are you keeping it?

  • Author

Yes Stu, will be indeed keeping it. Typically, now i've added the bluetooth module following your fantastic guide, i've been offered a Pioneer HD1bt head unit (all singing and dancing Navi/HDD/touch/bt/DVD double din) at a great price! Dilemma time !!

Get yourself an RNS510 mate, lovely bit of kit.
