Stiff clutch? Is this possible with it being hydraulic?

Featured Replies

Ive got a vrs with 40k on the clock and i drove my mates for the first time the other day and was very surprised how soft the pedal felt compared to mine. Mines very heavy to press (more like a cable clutch). Just wondered why seeing as its hydraulic?

Any suggestions?

try bleeding it failing that your release bearing might be causing it

When was the brake fluid last changed? :D

how many miles was on your mates VRS , and what age are both of the cars ?

even with hydraulic clutches , when the plate is worn the pedal can feel heavier , the bite point could also be in a different place , higher up on yours i suspect

Hi all,

I've got the same problem but I didn't really notice until I borrowed a courtesy Fabia yesterday (just had the cambelt and water pump done on a 53 Octavia 1.8T, 48,000 miles. Ouch!). I got back in my car and the clutch felt SOOOOOO heavy compared to the Fab. I guess it was heavy all along but I had nothing to compare it to (only had the Octavia 4 weeks after driving a Micra for 4 years). I've got a 6-month warranty. Do you think they should fix it on that???

Which Fabia did you have as a courtesy car? The petrol ones have a significantly lighter clutch than their diesel counterparts so you might find the extra weight is just to cope with the extra "torques" of your 1.8T?

Anyway, why would you want a light clutch :P

The Fabia was a petrol, basic 1.2 htp. Maybe that was it then? My clutch isn't quite a leg work out yet but it was weird getting back in it again. I thought the stealer had done something iffy when they changed the belt. Thanks for the advice anyway, I feel better about the clutch now

Hey Jigger - when my Furby was in for its numerous new turbos; the first time I had a new 1.2 HTP Fabia Petrol and the second time I had a new 1.4 TDI Fabia. Both had feather light clutches compared to my Fabia vRS, and mines only 9 months old with 15K on the clock. I think its just a traight of the Furby vRS - but yeh; it was abit of a shock. When I picked her up this time I stalled her twice within 2 minutes because my leg just gave way.

i'm with you on that one chris,my wife's swift has a daft super light clutch, and its terrible:D
