Brightest w5w 501 sidelight bulbs?

Featured Replies

What have you tried that you recommend / don't recommend?

I don't want any blue tint to the light output at all, just nice crisp bright white, unlike the std yellow.

I initially thought of LED's but after a bit of advice on here & having researched them a bit more it seems they last 12 months if you are lucky before they start to flicker.

The Philips bluevision & Ring ice blue have a light blue coating on them, but do they give off any blueness?

The Philips are just 3400° so i assume they are pure white? as the blueness doesn't come in until higher than 4300° IIRC?

As you already said, avoid the LED ones at the mo, even the 'white' ones are still blue.

I dont understand why someone cant produce a proper white LED bulb? I've got a torch with white LED's in it, so they obviously could be made?

I'm I right in saying your on about the little wedge type parking ones?

You can get BlueVision 4000k ones - I have them in my map reading lights :) - it's just there seems to be quite a lot of the 3400k stock about, as Powerbulbs et al give them away with other bulb purchases. Or it could be that they produce two varients...

I've used the Osram ones before too (forget the model) and they've been good.

TBH, I'm never fussed about brightness of sidelight bulbs really, just to get rid of the dim orange 'candlelight' type output! If I need more light, I'll pop dipped beam on :D

ive got sum extremly blue leds as my sidelights. had to whip em out quick before the mot. very very bright and i paid 2 quid for them. bargain . even the cops round here dont care i have them on

I have blue vision sidelights in (well one at the mo as i lost one when someone crashed into me car!) and the difference is huge... will try and get a piccy tomorrow as i have one standard and one bluevision and its a lot whiter light than the standard ones!

Blue vision sidelight bulbs here too, as said, even though they are blue, they have blue in the name, they give out a bright white light. Difference is huge compared to normal yellow ones.

This the difference between a std and Bluevision 4000k bulb, when used inside as map reading lights. See if you tell which is which ;)

(taken with a 2MP phone camera, but you get the idea...)

Thanks everyone especially GAFF for the link

It looks like the Philips bluevision will be perfect then, no blue tint despite the colour and the name, a bit confusing really

Wardy i find them useful for parking on sidelights at night, no other time really as you say either off or dip beam when I'm driving for me too.

This has now inspired me to order some new bluevisions so i'll have two again! Only costing just over £4.

Reason i prefer them is because i have auto lights that keep the sidelights on for about 20 secs after ignition is switch off... you can't tell the difference when the main beams are on!

Is auto illumination a standard Felicia L&K thing Phil? Or is it something you've added?

lol... it as an added extra by myself! confused the hell out of the garage the other day... they ended up ringing me to ask how to turn my lights off!

Heres a pic of my car... difference between bluevision and standard sidelight bulbs....
