Featured Replies

hey ppl. hows u all?

ok story goes - went over a rather large bump in the car about a week back now. ended up burstin a tyre, so i went the next day n got a new one put on, thought woooo! all fine!

last night tho, took the wee thing to a petrol station ,filled up, drove to my mates house, on the way to the pub to play pool, everytime i tunred the wheel, theres this loud knocking noise???

thougth hmmm very odd, but it got louder an louder, now when the car is staionary its fine, but its makin the noise really round sharp bends or progressive ones an while accelerating.

any ideas? or is percy destinted for the bin an a fabia to me???:thumbup::thumbup:

CV joint has gone mate!

Had both go on my old citroen!

Shouldn't be too expensive to put right.

driveshafts maybe?

how dangerous is it to drive round on it till it gets sorted?

it is CV joint your lucky :P I just have new one on my felluy.

with new clutch and Cv joint + labour

it cost me 500euros

so maybe around 100 euros 80 GBP

and its very dangerous to drive with.

so looks as tho may possibly b driveshaft problems. ,to add to this, passenger front seat ,which i did change to buckets, came out of its mountings about 20 mins ago an i now have the fastenings stuck into the frame a the car,ooo im hopin for some good news soon. if it is a driveshat problem -this easy to sort an costly i imagine??

were would i get somethin like that fixed as i work all the time to keep it goin.lol.

Lol I know the feeling

I had the same thing with my Felicia - except hadn't hit a bump. It turned out just to be a clip on the driveshaft! I was worried at the time it happened - that the whole driveshaft had gone and I wasn't going to make it home:thumbdwn: (30 miles from) I made it home and then to the garage, another 30 miles. Then it wouldn't b***** replicate the fault for the mechanic as I had been so gentle with it lol!

All sorted in the end (aside from a dodgy ignition switch and radiator full of rad weld!)- good luck with yours

its not sumats silly like loose wheel nuts is it?

:) I agree with all the driveshaft joint answers, but for goodness sake make sure the lower spring cups haven't given up....there's a sticky thread about this problem at the top of this forum.

cheeers guys,i got it up on ramps b4 ( cancelled a date n well she didnt take it well the car came first) from what i cu c , one of the gaiters had split as the drive shaft was still in place. thinin tho, head dwn the scrappy an get a new drive shaft, long shaft is it? an the joints of another fely an see if that helps.but casue a the whole work thin looks like percy will not be plodding aroud for a month, guttted, merseyside busses for 2 weeks.

If you get a complete driveshaft it will already have the CV joints on... and is usually just as easy/cheap to replace than just the joint itself!

When i had mine done on the citroen it turned out that it was cheaper to replace the whole driveshafts!

Good luck!

ye , been down the scrappy an got a whole new driveshaft of an r reg felly for * dum dum da daaaaaaa* £5

good when ya know the owners, an im gettin it fitted while im in work for a tenner.lol

well made up., wuda switched it meself but just aint got the time with work at mo.

cheers for all ya help guys!!!

Your split gaiter is probably the responsible culprit, letting dirt/sand into the joint. So check the other side at the same time and replace if cracked/worn/split! Saves you money for the future

ye twas what i thought wen i got underneath it last night. oh well, shud all be hopefully sorted by friday morning.

£5 is a wicked price :) I hope it sorts it out for you. I thought £25 second hand was decent when I had them done on a Favorit, and then labour on top (about £150 new I think!)

While you are having a new driveshaft fitted make sure you check the wishbone bushes where they attach on the hub. This can lead to similar noises if mine is anything to go by!!

You can buy these for peanuts from Joirly off ebay and may be worth doing if they are suspect.
