unlucky :P

as said audio is part of the HDMi spec and both SkyHD and our telly supoort audio over HDMi but sadly for some stupid reason the sky box downgrades the audio to pro logic instead of the full fat dolby digital it starts off at.

Oh.......really ????Mmy 6month old philips 37" LCD says it's HDMI, but doesn't support audio over HDMI

Does it have an HDMI sticker on it?

If the HDMI sticker is on it then it must meet the spec, if it doesn't meet the spec I'd be complaining quite a lot to Phillips as they have falsly advertised using the logo.

To use the logo you have to past tests. If they say it has HDMI connectors however that isn't the same as supporting HDMI ;)

High-Definition Multimedia Interface - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia is a wikipedia approximation of the spec.

I shall check.... but to be honest I don't care. She's having the TV when the house is sold anyway.

It could also just be the audio format.

HDMI is just a cable that can carry video and audio. Just like there are many video resolutions you can use with HDMI (SD, 720p, 1080i, 1080p) there are many audio formats you can use: 2ch LPCM (which your TV should manage), various encoded audio signals (dolby digital, dts) and things like 8ch LPCM. The two latters are unlikely to be decoded or read by the TV as the signals are in a language other than what the TV can understand :P

I hate the DD over optical only thing with Sky boxes. Yes, for a lot of people, you only want 2ch stereo going through HDMI (for the TV) and have a separate feed (optical) for audio going to the amp, but for those people that have amps and use them as a routing device, it's a pain as you have two cables to do the job when only 1 is really required.
