Expensive week service and repair

Featured Replies

Nightmare, week

Car 04 VRS

Just had the 40k service, the four year cambelt change, four tyres, (foolish ignorance) rear wheel bearing, rear stub axle, rear brake caliper, all just over a thousand pounds

The work was given to and done by Star Performance, all and more excellent work done as quoted, including lifts to and from my home,

Quibbles with dealer. Not taken up

Come in and have your free winter check sir,

All is fine except you seem to have a wheel bearing going, but we can not tell which one, you will have to wait until it gets worse, err OK

Your winter check has thrown up a problem with your brakes, err OK I can not drive safe with faulty brakes, bring it in in the morning sir and we will look at them

Free winter check, £60 to clean and adjust brakes three hours, noisy wheel bearing but we can not tell which one until it gets worse, that was three weeks ago

Checked my tyres and although 10mm rears seemed to be a bit broken up/cracked

which could be the source of the bearing type hum, Tyre place said your tyres are legal, but I went for a change anyway

Whilst tyre fitter was fitting tyres I mentioned the wheel bearing, and it was discovered that the rear wheel caliper was seized open (three weeks after the dealer had charged me £60 for the brake clean and adjust, no problem now sir just the unknown wheel bearing)

Star performance had the car half an hour and identified that the rear caliper was seized open, and the same rear wheel had a damaged wheel bearing and stub axle

The Cambelt was changed along with a new metal impeller water pump and all tension pullies

All filters etc and a really good service

Got picked up at my home (12 miles)this afternoon back to garage, paid bill and took the car home, what a difference it is like a new VRS again

Now I only have, new MOT INSURANCE AND TAX TO PAY next month :-(

After losing my no claims to a hit and run Blue Range Rover 4x4 I know who he is now. Police not interested after the event But I AM

Err and I am now broke

I dread to think of the renewal Though it will certainly be less than his :-)

National aka Jimbo

Thats some sad saga Jimbo, my sympathies, not much good I know, but I have no spare cash either. At least you seem to have found a good independent (?) service place.

Why were the cops not interested in the driver who left the scene of an accident? Seems strange; are they pals, is he a cop, the chief constable's brother?

I still think you should do some modifications,

Starting with the kneecaps and see how it goes from there.

Insuffiecient information, it was a hit and run whilst parked, lady neighbour saw him, and as he appeared to be writing a note did not note his reg no

I had a good idea it was the one and only blue 4x4 to visit our street, on a monthly basis, and he has been arriving since in his wifes white merc

but the police need solid facts not heresay

Oh well the cars a nice ride now so I am enjoying it

Yes, Star Performance is the place to go if you live in East Scotland - others take note if you don't already know.
