I've been trying to find out if there is a problem with my dual zone climate on my VRS.

When i press "auto" the light comes on, on the button. However if i press it again it doesnt go off, i have to turn the fad speed control and it automatically goes off.

The anoying thing is that when i have "auto" switched off and i adjust my fan to 3 or 4 leds the auto light comes on automatically.

Its drining me mad, just want to leave it on 3 leds and have done with it

Is this normal?

This is perfectly normal but why would you want to switch the climate control off? It's completely automatic and the fan speed adjusts to the demands of the system as do the various internal directional flaps. IMO it's far better to leave the system on and let it deal with humidity, temperature (even in the winter) etc.

There have been many postings about the effect climate control may or may not have on fuel consumption - none of them have ever really proved that a modern system is worth turning off.

If you really want to turn the system off quickly there is a very simple mod at Octavia-vRS.com - Climatronic Off Button

Just press "econ". With both lights on the car will reach your set temperature but the A/C compressor is off.

If you want more "normal" heating, press the footwell button and/or the face level button. Adjust fan to whatever you want. Old fashioned but works better I reckon !!

The climatronic knows what it needs to do in it's auto mode all the time whether it's on or off. Sometimes you will manually duplicate the settings that the unit knows it wants in auto so the LED lights up.

Personally I have mine set between 20-23 with the air going to the screen and/or footwell and the ECON button lit up unless the car does a sauna on me in bad weather.

Failing that, stick some tape over the AUTO LED

Cool, so all is normal then, thisis the first car I've had with climate control and i guess I still prefer to wind a window down if its too hot

Read and re read the manual for it as it's pretty complicated and has quite a few little quirks.

The dual climatronic unit is quite smart actually. That little bump on top of the center dash is an IR sensor which tells the unit when it's sunny outside to put a little more ummh in it.

It also knows to turn on recirculation if you are washing the windshield or are reversing, amongst other things.

I've personally had it on 23 C auto for it's entire life. Cool enough in the summer and mist free in the winter, and I never have to fiddle with it.

Only had my car 2 days now but on my 1st drive with the salesman next to me I thought was going to pass out, looked and settings were at 22 :eek:. Turned them down to 19.5 and not moved them since , either our cars read the temp diff or you were born to live somewhere VERY hot :eek:

On these cold mornings I find the footwell and face level buttons get you comfortable much more quickly than auto. Once it is warm, I switch to auto, or econ.
