Tis a Toshiba 46XF355DB and yes I know it isn't exactly a KURO but those things are off the scale in terms of budget , maybe next time

It's physically smaller than an equivalent Toshiba 42" LCD which is nice. My last 2 CRT's have been Toshiba and they have been excellent and I got it for a decent price.

2 things:

1) How to tell SWMBO (got until Sunday when it's delivered)

2) And what HD source to get first. The obvious thing is a PS3 but we are more than happy with the Wii despite the absence of 1080p output but 'Ratchet and Clank' and GT5 look too irresistable.............Then there is SKY HD to consider as well....

Nice telly:thumbup:. Should prove very reliable to boot.

Now you need to spend another Uuuuughe sum on a 5.1 system :D(if you haven't already)

Nice looking tele!

I wouldn't tell her just see if she notices.:rofl::rofl:

The HD source would depend what else you're going to want to use it for, I would go for the Sky HD because I have Sky + already and don't have any interest in games consoles!

Most of the peeps in the industry that I have spoken to think Blue Ray will defiantly be the winner, possibly as soon as by the end of the year! As a result a PS3 is great value for money especially as it does HDMI 1.3a (for when the disc are produced)

I'll put a dust sheet over it and she'll be none the wiser.

I already have a nice (IMO) Yamaha DSP AX750 with some B&W and Mordaunt Short speakers around the living room - all more than ample for my needs, I am looking at a B&W sub to upgrade the Eltax Atomic at some point down the road.

The A/V unit is missing HDMI connections but that doesn't worry me. The cinema sound is excellent as it is.

My money would be on Blu-Ray taking over, everyone I know has it, mainly thanks to the PS3 :D

The Eltax is OK for now and I've isolated it so it's agitating the air in the room instead of the floor. A combination of thick marble sections and various grades of acoustic padding.

A friend of mine bought a massive B&W ASW 750 and it was just too much.

My humble A10 is powerful enough for my current front room but that will change when we move to a bigger detached place.

The M22's are killer and that's the sort of thing I'll be looking at in the future. I would also like a full B&W 700 set someday.

The best bit about the M22s is they weigh about 22kg each, so with their pointy feet, I can get my own back on my noisy neighbours by rattling their fillings. Superfi are doing some nice deals on subs at the moment and seem willing to talk discount on top of sale prices too. I got around £300 off the M22s. would have had a listen to some subs, but as I mentioned I’m skint and I can’t find any rich blokes who want to treat me.

There is some really nice kit out there but as you say, it's all money

I'm going to set aside 10k for the sound system when I move ("yeah right, that'll happen" says SWMBO )

Ooooh 10K, that’s a shopping spree I’d like to go on:)

If I have my way it'll be happening. I'll be knocking on Mr. Bowers and Mr. Wilkins' door for a nice set of Nautilus speakers :D

Yes indeedy :D

Another good thing about the PS3 is that it'll upscale normal DVD's which makes a big difference. Admittedly I pretty much only use my PS3 as a DVD player as there aren't that many games out that are PS3 only that I fancy as I spend most of my time on my 360, but its a good all in one unit if its your only console.

Lucky that today I ordered:

1 x PS3

1 x HDMI cable

1 x Casino Royale (Blu-Ray)

1 x Ratchet and Clank tools of destruction.

Seeing as I am an Amazon Prime member I should get it all by Saturday and the telly is coming on Sunday :mw::leapfrog::woohoo:

Amazon Prime.......Sounds like a Transformer :P

the 360 upscales normal DVD's too :)

i'm not getting a PS3 yet as i can't see the point other than blueray films(but i'd only buy them because i could) and the GT HD demo.

for games the 360 wins easily at the moment.

Don't forget that the PS3 will also wirelessly steam your DivX and WMV files from your computer to display upon your mighty fine 46" screen, via the Media server.

Downloaded Lost and Heroes will never be the same!

It'll also stream HD photos to your screen and music to your surround sound system.

And the PS3 is the only bluray device on the market that has the hardware to support future versions of Bluray 1.1 and bluray 2.0 which make improvements to picture and sound.

a 46" telly is the way forward though, nice choice.

If you're Amazon Prime will you get a discount on the DVD rental club? I'm a member and you can get most new releases on Bluray and an increasing number of classics. It's the best value IMO for watching Bluray as they are still quite expensive to buy.

I rent Blu-Ray from my local Blockbuster as they are the same price to hire as a DVD.

I always though anything over 40-42"" was "a bit too big" but not in this instance. I saw it on display in Comet and couldn't believe it was 46".

I was reading about the shortcomings of some earlier BR versions and it got me thinking about the PS3 but it's good news it won't have any problems.

Looks superb, not envious in the slightest! :D

One day....

Steve

You may have 46" but I have 100hz and true 5:5 pull down! Muah ha ha! By the way I've got a Tosh 42Z3030. Tis tres bien!

I have 100Hz on me Samsung. it aint all it's cracked up to be like.

I'm not too concerned about the lack of 100hz on the tv, it was an issue with CRT's and my current 32ZP48 has 100hz technology as I couldn't get on with the flickering of 50hz sets.

The new'un is mainly for video games and will probably be replaced in a few years when I get bored with it

And besides, the telly looks nice and that's the main thing that got it past the Royal Bank of SWMBO :P

I've spent the afternoon fitting some nice expensive taps in the bathroom, that's how low I've had to go :D

She is currently enjoying the PS3 more than I am :P
