best HID kit for my fabia VRS?

Featured Replies

can anyone suggest what HID kit from the selection on ebay would be suitable for a 54 plate fabia VRS? many thanks

I'll assume you've read the previous posts/threads concerning the legalities of retro fitting HiD's. My best suggestion would be HIDS4U Ltd - UK's Number 1 HID Conversion Kit Specialists they're kits are good and work. Albeit damn sight more expensive than ebay, But experience has taught me 'you only get what you pay for' And what ever you choose try and get the lowest colour temp you can. The rule of thumb is the higher the temp the less light they emit and the light is bluer and more likely to attract the wrong type of attention:mad:

The H7 kit will fit the Fabia.

I will be going for their H7 Ultimate kits for dipped beam on the Leon.

These have digital ballast & separate starters due to the car's electrics not liking the sudden rush of current when switching on.

I can suggest you don't and you try osram nightbreakers or Phillips extreme instead.

The HID's are not legal and from first hand experience are f**king annoying in headlamps that were not designed for them due to the scatter.

Also the fabia has nothing to stop the forward projection of light fro mthe bulb, so you would need a kit that has a covered or blacked out bulb end.

The scatter or glare is caused by light reflected off anything that is chromed other than the actual reflector.

Most OEM Xenon headlamps have the projector style lights which focus the light into a prism, rather than reflecting light back off a reflector.

Luckily the Mk2 Leon has a dedicated reflector & everything else is black plastic.

The fabia doesn't have projectors or anything like that. They have the most basic form of reflector and it does scatter horribly.

I have had one follow me and could quite happily have got out and smashed the guys headlights as they were so bright they were even defeating the auto dimming mirror.

I actually just pulled over and let him past, but the reflectors are designed for halogen bulbs not HIDs and so the location and intensity of the light source is different and as a result causes scatter.

Yes I agree with you......................I was talking from a Leon owners point of view.:D

LOL Same as the Octy II  , but those dual HID equipped range rovers sure as hell are annoying :thumbdwn:

i never had any problems with my aftermarket HID kit in the beetle even driving abroad no one flashed at me nor did I get pulled over. I am going to try just uprating the bulbs first though and have ordered some of the said bulbs above from powerbulbs today to see how I get on - why spend £250 smackers first when £25 will do :)

They are being a lot more strict on MOT's these days I am told.

I won't be spending £250 to add anything that might not be 100% legal as at the end of the day that is half the price of getting them factory fit on a new car.

My grandfather (MOT Tester about 25 years no) won't even entertain them. They never line up properly and the pattern is always out.

They are usually found fitted to cars not worth the cost of the kit as well....

Bit of a sweeping statement there!

IMO they need to go in projector headlights to keep a good pattern with no scatter, there are however plenty of OEM bulbs / headlights (in new cars) that don't have the headlights adjusted properly.

I suppose it was a sweeping statement but generally they are crap. They always try to adjust headlamps rather than just fail them but getting it right with HID kits is apparently a big pain in butt and often can't be done to the legal requirement.

For instance - MK 2 Punto with projectors (They all had them until Mk2b) fitted with a xenon kit still fails the pattern. It might be the individual car and/or the individual kit but the reality is that the majority of cars fitted with the majority of HID kits are going to be illegal and possibly a hazzard to other road users. I would love to fit one to my Roomster having come from a VRS with factory fit Xenons I miss them like hell, but I know they would just pi55 everyone else off (Despite having projector modules fitted) and I have found a good comprimise in uprated bulbs.

The letter of the law is there in plain text, they are not legal and with good reason. If the people who were buying these kits had used their common sense and made sure they didn't cause any issues then the state wouldn't have got it's rule book out and spanked us with it. It's still up to the individual what they choose to do with that information but at least they can go from this site with a balanced amount of opinions on the subject, not everyone just saying "Get these, they are well cheap! I got a set and everyone flashes me - I must be well popular!"
