Where to get a timing chain from?

Featured Replies

I thought they always rattled a bit, but I might be thinking of the older 1.3 engine...? :o but if it really needs a new one, I would go to Skoda for one, or failing that try eurocarparts or GSF. :)

A dealer for defo!

There only about 15-20 quid!

Thats a full kit too, chain and cogs

Ill enquire tomorrow.

Where abouts are you in the country?

Reason for asking is that some dealers prices are different...

Ah!

Nowhere near me then!

Ive spoken to a mate...about 4 to 5hrs if done properly with sump off etc, but it can be done at home without taking it off...just.

The labour might be depends if you take it to a dealer or good independent...

It'd be a long and quite messy job for an inexperienced mechanic. There is also the potential for engine damage if you get the new chain on out of step. Given a workshop manual, the right tools and sufficient patience, it should be achievable, though.

Asked today at my SKODA del £28 before vat for chain and £25 before vat for the tensioner:eek: my FAB has only 54000 mils on it and the chain is noisy:confused:

You talking about the right engine?

1400 MPI 8v...Petrol.? No tensioner on it...

Cam chains tend to last 180-200k miles.

Is it just your opinion that it needs changing or have you have 2 & 3rd opinions from qualified people?

Age is not an issue with chains
