Wildly different serving costs

Featured Replies

Hey everyone, I need a £40k service in a months time, so did the sensible thing and called around for quotes. I’ve called 2 local Skoda dealers, and was asked for £330 in VAT from one, and £207 inc Vat from the other. How can they be so different? I know which one I’ll be going with!

Does £207 sound a bit cheap for a 40k service? It’s a fairly large one me thinks.

I certainly would phone around for a £40K service.....

Are they both official Skoda dealers? £207 sounds cheap to me, will be happy if I can get my 40k service done for that.

Both official Skoda dealers, only about 10 miles apart!!! I'll definitely be confirming that price before I accept it. It seems too cheap!

Also worth confirming what work will be done for the price too. You might find that they both have different ideas about what needs doing at 40k!

Silly question, but should it not be as per the service handbook?

It should be which is why I would double check with them what they intend to do for that money. £207 sounds too cheap so it'll be interesting to see if they are missing things out or will quote extra if the car is 4 years old and requires a brake fluid and/or coolant change.

Chris

I found that they were that embarrased at the price, some of them (ie the cheaper quote, does not include the air con filter, and other bits left out)

So they can offer a service at a seemably reasonable price

I would and do go independant

Star performance in my case

Cheers Guys,

I'll try and get a full break down of works tomorrow. The car is 2 yrs old, so no extra charges there, and had the break fluid done at 30k so again nothing extra to pay.

I wanted to stay with the main chain as I'm still in warrenty.....

I'll report back my findings. I'm imagining that if somethings appears too good to be true, then it probably is!

£40K thats one expensive service

As long as its done at a VAT registered service place - the warrenty will not be affected.

Yes true, but it depends what your having done. Did you see the episode of Top Gear at least 5 years back where they gave the Lada to the team of Lotus enginers......?

Honestly, for 40 grand, she'll be a beast!

OK, got hold of the garage in question. As a Skoda retailer, they are linked into "the system" They work to the approved schedule, inc. Air, pollen, fuel, and oil filters.

Defo know which garage I'll be going to. In really don't think £207 is bad for a 40K service!
