Metalic rattle at 3000rpm 1.9TDI

Featured Replies

Does anyone else have a slight metallic rattle at 3000rpm on their 1.9TDI ?

It's not all the time, and only when "pressing on" that I notice it. It's quite a quiet rattle, but I just can't tell where it's coming from.

If anyone has had the same and either fixed it or worked out what it is I'd be interested to know.

TIA

Not sure if it is any help but I had a slight metallic rattling sound under similar circumstances. After lots of tinkering it seemed to be the thin metallic heat shield around the exhaust just as it disappears under the bodywork behind the engine. I could just get to it with a long screwdriver to push it away from the exhaust and the bodywork. It seems to be solved so I hope this helps.

Cheers

Thanks gaz.

It's certainly a heat sheild sort of rattle, but "appears" to be from the dash somewhere.

As it only happens when driving its hard to diagnose. I've tries holding the ash tray, and dash top cubby but it still happens. I'm beginning to think its something behind the dash.

I can live with it, it's not a loud rattle, I'd just like to sort it.

Interesting i get this too when accelerating in 3rd upwards and seems to be coming from under gearstick area towards the front.

Yeah sound similar to mine.

Wonder if it's something like a gear linkage?? although holding the gear lever dosn't stop the rattle
