Just bought a TomTom One XL GB- help needed!

Featured Replies

Hi,

Just got myself a satnav (TomTom One XL GB), and got a few questions...

How to get Gordon's highwaymen, aka "Safety" camera locations loaded on for free?

How to bluetooth connect it to my phone (Sony Ericsson W850i)?

Good place to buy reasonably priced case for it and a vent mount kit, as don't like sticking it to the windscreen (too hard to reach for me!)? Have looke on web and Amazon etc and choice is bemusing!

Is there anywhere in or around Manchester that won't charge the earth to fit a 2nd 12v power socket either in the cubby hole under the head unit or in the loose change bit under the heater controls?? Awesome Gti have said they could do it for approx £100.

Cheers:D

The one xl doesnt have a bluetooth kit built in, the bluetooth is for connection to a pc of laptop for updating only IIRC

Cheack out Pocket GPS World for info on scameras :D

For the speed cameras i'd go for the pocketgpsworld.com speed camera database as it's only a quid or so a month and is very much up to date and comprehensive.

As for the bluetooth. Isn't the one like my GO300 in that the bluetooth is only for connecting your phone to update traffic info / weather info and not for use as a bluetooth handsfree.

You should have an option in your menu to turn bluetooth on then just pair your one with your phone.

Cheers

Dave.

i'm also registered on Pocket GPS world, they even give you guides to load the database onto the device.

TomTom 1 XL is really nice.

Not too sure on a vent mount kit. Used to have a vent mount on my XDA2S .

I prefer a windscreen mount and putting it just above the middle of the dashboard.

A dash/vent mount kit would prob look alright and it saves having "sucker marks" on the windscreen

Depends what you prefer really.

For the case instead of buying an actual TT one that I think are about £20, I went into Game and bought a case for a handheld game thing. It cost me about a fiver

The bluetooth is used to link to a phone so it can dial out.

My mate has the GO910 and that uses the bluetooth to route phone calls etc through the TomTom and read your text messages (it will read them out to you)

Useful and I'll admit I was impressed when i saw it in action but I prefer the simplicity of the standard devices, no gimmicks.

I use a camera bag for mine to keep the windscreen mount and stuff in.

You can get cams free via TomTom Home ap. ;)

I think the Tomtom home app you have to pay for the speed cam stuff as its a TomTom plus service i think?

With pocket GPS world after you've paid you can download the database for Garmins, Tomtom and any other devices that are listed here

Thats what I thought, but can't seem to figure out the website- it is truly awful!

And the instruction manual isn't much cop either. Dad's got a TT One so will try and pick his brains:thumbup:

You need the TT Home app to do it.

Anyone able to recommend an Auto Electrician or car hifi place (prefer to use recommendation than flying blind!) to put a 12v power socket into the cubby hole in the centre console, and also fit a new head unit with an ipod lead feeding into the back of it?

Got a new job :D so I may be on the road quite a bit, therefore I'm desperate to get this sorted ASAP!!!!:o:thumbup:
