Door trim removal??

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

After advice on removing the black trim on the outsode of the doors??

Any information on this would be great :)

Just peel it off, it use's double sided tape. But the bumper inserts are clipped in a groove and would need filling and painting or colour coding

Use a hair dryer to soften the glue and take it gently.

You will need a good adhesive remover for the glue that stays on the car.

Nooo dont do it.

Do it! I think the photoshop someone did of Quintens car in his for sale ad looked sweet.

Why bother? Painting them (plastic primer, plus spray of relevant top coat) is easier, and keeps the knock protection, and reduces the height road spray rises.

If you do decide to take the door bump strips off, use a rubber wheel that fits in a cordless drill to get the double sided tape residue off. It makes light work:thumbup: otherwise you'll be at it hours scrubbing.

The removal or colour coding makes the car look like a pussy sadly.

I've colour coded mine & personally think it makes it look more modern & different. We all have our own tastes & now i've had mine colour coded, I hate to see silver mk1 vRS's with black bumper & door trims.

It looks alright on your car as you have many other body mods but on a standard one Im not keen. I quite like the black (has to be maintained to stay black) otherwise it looks like a grey mess.

I had one of my door trims replaced, and at the time was thinking of removing them all, but unfortunatly the trim pulled some paint off as it was on that hard. So i bottled it and now may spray them same colour as car.
