Fav Clutch replacement

Featured Replies

Mines starting to feel distictly slippy...

How easy (or hard) a job is it? Am I likely to be able to manage it or is it best left to a workshop?

I haven't had to do the clutch on any of my Favs so far, but it's much the same routine as any other conventional 1980s/90s front wheel drive car - frankly a bit painful. You've got to get the gearbox off the engine, but that means removing drive shafts, which in turn means dismantling at least one side of the suspension, undo most of the engine mounts so you can twist the assembly round, undo the exhaust system somewhere for the same reason, support the engine, undo the gear shift linkages, undo the bellhousing bolts - and then you've got the gearbox out of the way and can start on the clutch. Last one I did, on a Fiesta I think, took about 5 hours in the road, not helped by the mate whose car it was who turned out to be barely capable of undoing a wheel bolt! The kind of job that's really _much_ easier with a proper garage car lift on hand and probably about the only mechanical job I would normally pass to a garage. Nothing actually difficult, just very, very tedious.

:)Isn't as bad as all that mate. Favorits are one of the easiest FWD clutches I've done.
