Screw-in Floor Mat Clips

Featured Replies

I'm having a bit of a problem with the carpet mats in my vRS.

As I'm a driving instructor, I have people of all shapes and sizes in and out of the car all day. This leads to the seat going forward and back more times than Steve Redgrave and up and down more times than a Manic Depressive.

The trouble is that this puts a great deal of strain on the poor mats and this has led to my drivers side mat frequently coming detached from the plastic clip that attaches to the screwed in holder. Worse still, on a few occasions, the screwed in holder has been pulled from the carpet and I've had to screw it in in a slightly different place.

It's happened again recently and I'm running out of space to rescrew it in.

Has anyone got any ideas how to prevent this and how to repair the carpet?

i know its not a fantastic solution but would a set of cheap black mats or clear plastic mats from halfrauds do any good? i suppose the clear ones would go over the vRS mats and might save a bit of wear and tear?

I did think about that, but the problem I've had with every car I've taught in is the mats moving around.

Because I'm 6'2", I have the seat well back but my pupils usually need to move the seat forwards, so they use their feet to pull themselves forward. That pulls the matt backwards, whereas people getting in tend to put forward pressure on the mat.

My last car had a similar problem and the mat kept sliding up behind the pedals.

Which direction are the pins through the carpet?

I angle them inwards one forwards, one back. bit like / /

Before the advent of these plastic fixings I used to punch a couple of holes in the mat and use some strong cord to tye around where the seat bolts to the floor. The vRS mats will have holes already.

I'd rather have something like this than several holes where the OE fixings have ripped out of the carpet.

The cord idea sounds like quite a reasonable plan. I'll give it a go! Thanks.

Wind it out, get a new one, wind it in.

i'm not sure that the clips are available separately without buying a complete set of mats

Clips are avialable from dealers and dont cost a fortune, think there available from the Skoda shop too. I bought some recently from my dealer so i will dig invoice out tomorrow and qoute part number if that helps.
