Sourcing 1.8" IDE Laptop Hard Drives

Featured Replies

Proving a little tricky to get hold of as everything I see seems to be 2.5". Not a massive capacity required, 100 or 120Gb really.

Any suppliers you've used?

Thanks,

Steve

Surprised you have a computer with one in and think you will find it hard to source one without going back to the manufacturer

That link above has one though, but it's on pre-order, so fingers crossed for you :)

Yeah, is a bit annoying, price you pay for an ultraportable I suppose! It's a Vaio TR1.

Just glad I did a bit of checking round, as I was about to just pick up a normal 2.5".

go and buy an iPod then you can have a nice 160Gb drive to put in the machine

Nice idea, but bear in mind that a more normal 2.5" drive of 100-120Gb capacity is around £40 :)

I know but thats the crap thing about 1.8" drives :(

I've got one of those dells at work and mine is a 2.5" disc  *runs off to check*

Out of interest a 1.8" drive is a lot more expensive than the 2.5" drives and generally the machines are designed around the thermal profile of the exact drive in them.

What one is in there at the moment?

It's a 30Gb Mark. Don't know the make and model as I don't have the machine with me ATM.

If you have major problems finding one then let me know and i'll have an ask of some contacts see when/if they will hit retail.
