fabia problems

Featured Replies

My fabia needs the folowing bits as advised by the dealer Alex Lawrie

New wishbone bushes at £135

New rear shocks at £248 for two

Oil leak, slight from top of engine needs to be investigated.

Oil leak, slight from air con pipe needs to be invesigated but re-gassing is £100

Can I do the shocks and wishbone job myself is it difficult?:finger:

I would get a second opinion :)

How old is it and mileage? also what engine?

i'm assuming those prices are for fitted parts ?

the shockers sound a bit expensive to me , there is not much involved in fitting them, probably less than an hours labour

the wishbone bush price seems reasonable , the bushes are about £7 each and is quite a big job to fit them , so £135 fitted is ok

i've got 2 rear shockers off a VRS you can have for £20 , only 5k miles, PM me, i work in Liverpool

Almost two years ago I had a main agent tell me I needed a diff seal replacing due to an apparent gearbox oil leak they'd discovered. They were unable to show me the leak as by then they'd re-fitted the undertray and the car was off the ramps. I queried the 'leak' and suggested that maybe it was more of a 'weep'? They were adamant that I was leaking gear oil and the seal needed replacing.

Well, since then I've had course to remove the undertray myself a number of times for various other jobs (which they missed) inc the wishbone bushes. On each occasion I've examined the whole gearbox case, paying particular attention the the diff seals and I've yet to see any leak!!!

In conclusion, not only would I suggest you get a second opinion on the price, but also whether the work is actually required at all!

true mate unless a reputable garage definately get a second opinion...find out pices for parts an shop around also how much they charge per hour labour so you can compare garages as well...dont pay above the ods mate

Always worth getting a second opinion whenever a big bill is looming. The air con regas can be done by an air con specialist and should be in the region of £60. Rear shocks seem expensive too but are a doddle to fit compared to the front as they are separate from the springs.
