312mm Disk Storage

Featured Replies

Hello Everybody

Just got myself the 312mm brake kit (cheers Golfturbo ) and im wanting to store the disks for a while till I get change to get it all painted up and fitted.

Was woundering what I should coat the disks in to avoid corrotion and any chances of pitting? I know it shouldnt be oil based so it needs to be I imagine a silicone based greese but not sure where to start really.

Any hep much apreciated.

Cheers

Carl

I could look after them for you haha

How long are you storing them for mate? and were are you storing them? if it's only a light smat of surface rust then that will go the first time you use the brakes.

Stick them in a warm dry place and you should not have any prob's at all.

Looking at about 3 or 4 months or so depends on howerver long it takes me to getting round to painting them and organising the insurance. Storing them currenly in the cold sort of Damp garage.

Well stick in a poly bag with some moisture absorbant (like the little sachet's you get in camera's phones etc etc) and seal it up, better still, chuck 'em under your bed (unless you sleep in the garage that is, in which case, ignore my last :)

Mine lasted fine in a cardboard box in the cupboard for a month while I sorted out painting and fitting. No rust at all on them. Been on the car for two years now and never had a problem.

Same, mines had surface rust on etc when i fitted, just comes off after a mile or so. Even when i clean my car they start to corrode...

Just rub them in some motor oil, that works just fine, and then in a bag.

Then rub the motor oil of and clean the discs when you need them.

Store them in the house. I once had a crated short engine in my bedroom when I lived at my Mum's house, had to get a mate to lift it in with me when she was out......

Spray em with WD40 then clean em off with brake cleaner when ready

I suspect cleaning them before fitting is more of an issue than corrosion while storing...
