Towbars

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I have just bought an Octavia II Elegance 2.0 TDi in black. Only had it a few days and am very pleased so far particularly with the fuel consumption ( last car was a Volvo 850 estate!)

I have to fit a towbar at sometime and being stingy am thinking of fitting the PCT one available from TowbarsrUs. No problems with towbar as it has EC approval. Only concern is on electrics. Does anyone have experience of the interface relay they sell asd part of the kit? I am concerned about the main car electrics being affected. I know in theory it shouldn't be but can anyone confirm this? Standard Skoda plug-in kit is horrendously expensive.

Hi,

What part of the country do you live in. I don't feel qualified to fit one myself or comment on the electrics but interestingly enough I needed one fitted to a VW Bora. Local VW dealer told me it was very expensive using their own and sent me to Broadland Towbars near Norwich. Fitted a very nice detatchable for £360 all in and came with a guarentee to keep VW happy with the warranty.

Price has gone up since to £450 but I have now enq'd about a goose neck for a new Octy2. price fitted with single electrics was £233... Any help?

Robinsons Skoda tell me they have used them too.....

I can confirm that Skoda towbars are horribly expensive. I've just had one fitted at a cost of over £630.

Having said that it is excellent and when not in use, without careful inspection, you wouldn't even know a towbar is fitted to the car.

Another thing of course if you don't fit Skoda's approved towbar then your vehicle electrics warranty is void and anything else that Skoda can blame on the towbar will be voided if a warranty claim is made.

Try Towequipe based in Nuneaton.

I bought a Witter detachable for my Freelander and saved about £150. However I used the Landrover wiring which cost over £100 as its very complex with several "black boxes" and lots of plugs and sockets.

Towequipe do an "invisible" detachable Westfalia one at £239 and Witter detachable at £216. They also do a full Bypass relay box for £26.

How much is the Skoda wiring on its own ? for the Octavia 2

It's about £170! The combi relay route is only about £ 20. Such a huge difference and technically I know it should work. I guess the warranty would be a problem.
