Oh no....another induction thread!!

Featured Replies

Howdy,

Right here we go again! lol

Just fitted a stainless steel induction kit after having a Pipercross panel filter. Few things i've noticed n i'm really just wanting to know if i'm causing damage or not.

Car on idle, slight rev on the throttle and a nice "gruff" induction roar ensues  but as its coming off rev, it sounds like a "flutter" coming from the induction kit?!?!?!? Plus at the higher end of the rev, the exhaust "spits" Sounds great but again i'm slightly panicing incase i'm doing damage. Anyone???

The other thing is the vac pipe that leads into the airbox's top part, should i leave this open or block it?? I can feel a slight vacuum from the hose but not much.

I'll try 2 get a vid or sound clip if this will help.

Cheers for any help (cars still under warranty so if anything goes pop, back to standard n off the the garage! lol :rolleyes:)

is the induction kit sealed?

if not youll just be sucking in hot air from the engine bay, causing flat spots in the rev range and can be damaging to the MAF

that Pipe is the breather for the vac control unit. IT SHOULDNT be blocked off and SHOULDNT be allowed to suck dirt into the air system. These units are 120+ dealers. ...... i know i wouldnt risk it.

It therefore needs a filter attaching to it somewhere.

When I had the k&n on the golf, I made a small hole in the rubber at the back of the air filter for the vacuum pipe to go into to.

Work fine after that!

I believe the "flutter" when lifting off the gas is the air being passed through your recirculating dump valve and yes the noise comes out of the induction kit. Its nothing to worry about what so ever.

Not sure on the exhaust noise though

Cheers folks!

I have the bottom part of the air box still in place so i'm still using the origial air feed plus i'm in the process of getting another made up, not noticed any flat spots, in fact it seems to be pulling alot cleaner?!?!!?

As regards to the vac pipe, i've got it sitting in such a way that is not blocked or has any chance of catching dirt, but i think i'll do DJ's idea of the hole in the rubber of the kit.

The exhaust note is still puzzling though.......
