Due to both Andrew (Silversausage) and I working full time, we had to squeeze this detail in over a weekend somehow. We managed to agree with Jason to get the car on Friday afternoon about 4pm and work until we got tired late on Friday night (turned out to be Sat AM) and then back on it for a few hours the next morning before giving it back to Jason(parslad) in the early afternoon on Saturday.

We had seen Jason a few weeks previously and carried out a couple of spot defects on a couple of panels after seeing his request for Info on Briskoda, Although we fixed Jason’s panels up nicely we had created another problem, they made the rest of the car look a bit flat (ok so not the worst problem in the world). So Jason promptly asked for a full correction detail.

The Car Arrived promptly for 4pm and as Andrew gave Jason a run up the road I set about getting all the equipment ready.

As said before we had previously seen the car in the past month and with a look over with a halogen lamp then it looked like the paint was a little swirly and had some areas of micro marring but nothing too heavy, and with us both owning Skoda’s we had a good idea of what it would take to correct........famous last words

Straight Away we began the wash process, but excuse the photos but the light was terrible so they mostly turned out blurry:

- Before starting the wash process we used APC cut 4:1 in the door/boot/bonnet shuts and agitated

- good foaming with the foam lance and Super Snow Foam and a touch of APC and a small dash of secret recipe

-The snowfoam was allowed to drip from the car and then a second coat was applied

- Engine bay soaked with safe degreaser and agitated before being carefully rinsed @ 45oC

- Car washed 3 bucket method and Megs Shampoo with a lambswool mitt.

- Autosmart Tardis applied below the coachlines and wiped off.

- The car was then fully clayed with Sonus SFX ultrafine detailing clay and meguires lube.

-The car was then given a final wash to ensure all bonded contaminents were completely removed, this was then rinsed at 45oC with an open hose

- Dried with Waffle Weave and filtered air compressor.

Since the car was now clean and dry we moved it inside, not only was it damn chilly outside but it had also begun to snow

First we taped the car up

Followed by an inspection of the condition of the paintwork with the halogen, we found a few areas of concern, but were fully confident in being able to correct it.

We took paint readings over the car and found a fairly consistent reading varying around the 120 mark apart from the roof which dipped down to around 85 so plenty to play with, although we weren’t going to be greedy with it

As the defects on the whole were fairly shallow we decided to stick with the PC’s to retain as much clearcoat as possible

We had to then decide on products, My favourite for Skoda paint is Menzerna, but as I said before it was bloody cold and Menz reacts terribly to this, we had a halogen heater and did warm up the panels but it was difficult to find a happy medium, the panels quickly got too hot and cooled rapidly so we tried an area with Megs #83 and an area with Sonus SFX, when the SFX had broken down the removal was not 100% so a glide of 83 was taken over it and the results were remarkably good so we continued on in that vein.

We carried out a couple of 50:50,s on a few areas of the car

I went round the car with the SFX2 on the yellow pad whilst Andrew followed me around with the #83 on a yellow pad also. When buffed off we then carried out another full inspection of the car under the Halogen, highlighting any areas requiring correction with a bit of detailing tape

These were then worked on with a spot pad for full correction.

We then deliberated about sealant after this stage, we did try Menz final Glaze, FMJ and eventually settled on megs #20 which was applied over the full car with the blue CPP.

The bell was tolling for 2am by this point and we were both dead on our feet so we tidied up for the night and got some shut eye.

The next morning came and we got straight into it, the weather was holding up nicely so we popped the car off the ground, whipped of the wheels, cleaned them front and back and under the arches, While I was there I cleaned up the hubs with a wire brush and gave them a coat of smooth silver hammerite (Skoda you owe me a warranty call )as they were rusting up, and just a general clean up.

All the under arch plastics were treated with meguiars all season dressing, the wheels were cleaned with Megs wheel brightener followed by 2 coats of poor boys wheel sealant and the tyres dressed with Megs high gloss tyre gel.

The exhaust was set about with meguiars NXT all metal polish which left me filthy but hey ho!

That left us to give the car a dusting down from the overnight build-up and a quick once over with detailing spray and a MF before applying two coats of collinite 476, by this point the car had that fantastic wet look,

This was quite a satisfying detail, the flake really popped out of the Octavia, I Really thought this had nothing on a clean blackmagic car but after doing it i’m not so sure

Unfortunately 2 mins before the car was picked up the snow began :( we were raging, after all that we wanted Jason to see it in its glory so wheeled her back into the garage, quick whipround with detailing spray and MF cloth and she was looking good again.

Spot the poor wee fabia’s that haven’t had a look in this weekend

Excellent work at a crappy time of year, wish I had a big garage :( had to make do with a very quick wash this morning. One question tho doesn't the collinite need any curing time between coats?

It was a tiny garage Pat, bit of an effort but we got there.

The collinite is reccomended to be added and removed on a panel by panel basis, and although it does come off a little easier when done, we applied the first coat then did the odds and sods like the wheels and under the bonnet so about 1-1.5hrs then removed then put the 2nd coat on, the second coat was removed after the complete car had coverage so probably in the region of half an hour due to the car being picked up shortly after.

Was not neglected before, honest! Just naive/stupid (delete where applicable) as to using a sponge instead of a mitt for example. Plus it was a request to not wash it for as long as possible to show just how good the results would be!!

i asked parslad not to wash it for pics. jason likes his cars and was keen to get it close to 100% defect removal as possible. when we seen it 1st time it was nice and clean.

must stress how much i liked the big octy. really unusual colour. didnt really need attacked with the makitta, pc done the job just fine.

really must do my own!!
