Anyone using a new flip key instead of std key?

Featured Replies

I have been wanting to get one of these new flip style keys for ages. I have a 2001 Elegance that came with the standard remote keys.

I've searched these forums and read just about everything to do with keys. I know you need to program the remote to match the car AND have the transponder matched to the imoboliser.

I originally bought 2x 3 button flip keys from ebay:

(1JO 959 753) + (1JO 959 753 DA)

I know I'll have to visit a specialist with a VAG-COM to match the imoboliser, but I can't even get the remote part to work. I followed about six different sets of instruction on the net - none of them have worked.

I've now ordered 2x (1JO 959 753 CT) 2 button remote keys, which the dealer says are the new versions of (1JO 959 753 AG). I'm worried these aren't going to work either. All of the remotes are 434 Mhz, and I don't understand why there are so many versions available.

I read somewhere that the problem could be that the car already has 4x keys registered to it (it's maximum), therefore some of these have to be deleted.

Anyone care to share their experiences?

my car came with them as standard.

you need to remove all the gubbins of your non flip key and transfer it to the flip key.

Just dont break anything!

Thats what my brother did with his MK3 Ibiza Cupra as they never came with flip keys

Yup, I've got a slightly different car (ok quite different) but its VAG so it's the same process.

There is a little capsule like chip at the end of the key blade (this is for the immo.) You need to move that to you flip key. Also you can't take the blade from a non flip to a flip as they won't fit.

You need to get a key cutter who can cut auto style key blades.

I went one stage further though and converted the IR remote central locking (which didn't work properly) to RF. This involve me swapping the central locking pump to one which included the RF module..... and making sure I got the remotes to match the correct frequency.

You shouldn't need to switch parts over if you have VAG-COM and the SKC code. The little capsule is the imnob' transponder which can be programmed into the dash using the information on Stu's site Octavia-vrs.com

I'm not sure why the buttons are not working, but again - if you have VAG-COM you can program them using that.

EDIT: This is the link you want Octavia-vRS.com - Key & Immobilisor Coding

Agree BUT, and this is a big BUT...... how many people doe you know have the SKC or have managed to get it ?

I couldn't say... I take your point, though.

For what it's worth, I phoned the dealer who sold my car when it was new... they kept the SKC on record and gave me it FOC... soo that's worth a shot.

Lucky g1t. I phoned orig supplying Audi garage for mine and they said £90, but they wouldn't give me the code, only re-code the key.

I know why... it's because they can't see the code anymore when they get it from HQ.

Yep I've heard that... I'm told Skoda are the same, now. I was just lucky that they had stored all the security codes when the car was new!

Thanks for your replies so far.

I've read about swapping the little capsule from the old key into the new, but didn't want to start having to partly destroy keys. I've got the SKC, so my local VW specialist skould be able to do that part.

I'm just worried the remotes are the wrong ones for the car and the central convenience unit won't recognise them. I wonder what year Skoda introduced the flip key to the Octavia, and which part no flip key.

You shouldn't destroy the key taking the immo chip out. It should be under a little plastic cover which you can prize up with a small nail (hammer in type) or something equally narrow and pointy.

This cover will be at the end of the blade just before it disappears into the plastic of the fob.
