I think that's how I'm going to finish mine off. I've taken it out of the bleach now, it still has a few bits of chrome on but is mainly white plastic now. Can't be bothered with doing the bleach again now, I've already cleaned up the bleach I've managed to spill around my garden once, I'm not doing it again!

Well, after having to get rid of my container full of bleach, because my buyer was coming round to view my house again, I deided that I'd plough on with the painting.

The grill still had a bit of chrome left on it but I figured a bit of sanding and using filler primer would cover it all. I've done about three coats of primer, three coats of paint and two coats of laquer... and it looks crap! I wanted a satin finish but laquering it (on the advise of a work mate!) has obviously made it go shiney. Plus, you can still see the chrome lumps through all the layers. I'm going to take it to a bodyshop and get it done properly! :o

Oh, and in answer to my own question, no, you can;t use Nitromors. It melts the plastic. I tried a little bit behind the badge after the grill had been bleached and i went all gooey. I'm just going to pop it back on the car for now until I can be bothered to get it to a bodyshop. I don't know why I even considered doing it myself, these things never go right for me! Ah well, at least my front discs and pad change seems to have gone okay....

Now I've just been to see if it's dried, it hasn't. I can't even deny responsibility for doing this to my car as my fingerprints are are all over the grill...

The black stuff thats made is Chromium Chloride and is quite nasty stuff, please be careful when doing this......

If you'd like to have a go at sanding it off, be my guest! You'll end up with arms like Popeye and a slightly dulled chrome grill.

ive just painted mine, rubbed it down with a red scotch pad and some 500 dry, it came out pretty good, pics up soon

Dropped mine off at local sprayer he did the chrome surround and the black plastic surround for £30.

You guys must have spent that on chemicals!!

was gonna say dont use nitros on them!

christ that stuff ate through 20 years or crap and about 7 layers of paint when we were doing up a landy! on a plastic grill it would destory it! lol!

but why get rid of it at all? surely just keying the surface up and using good primer would work?
