Moving to Mac

Featured Replies

How easy is it to do? I have loads of data that I'll still need access to.

What sort of business apps are available, beyond office? ie Visio, business process modelling etc

Will start off slow with a laptop, probably a Macbook - unless someone can really justify a pro. If I like it, it will be on to a desktop - iMac or just a big f off mac. That'll be when the fun starts....

Also, I have an itunes library, how do i transfer that across?

The intel macs can run parallels/bootcamp, so if needs must you can dual boot with windows to run troublesome apps that dont support OSx.

Not sure about Itunes library, but i know that mac-connected Ipods are not compatible with windows itunes and vice-versa, so transferring the library could be problematic depending how your library is stored.

If its just stuff youve imported (ie not bought from itunes) worst case, just dragging your itunes music folder back into itunes on the mac should do the trick... ive done this on a fresh install of windoze to good effect, although it doesnt restore playlists, network or big USB hdd should help here.

i have to say, i am tempted to get a macbook when funds allow instead of a "normal" laptop.

Provided your ipod is formatted fat/fat32 (So a windows formatted ipod) it will work fine with any Mac. It's only windows machines that struggle with Mac formatted ipods.

As for you iTunes library I've never migrated between the two but you should be able to simply copy it across. Authorise iTunes on your new mac and any iTunes store purchased music will play fine.

Turning away from Skoda, and now Gates? What ever next Jon :)

Jon if you let me know what apps you use alot im sure that i can find you some alternatives.

Sorry i didnt come out t sort your iPod i was stuck in a meeting so had to send the apprentice out :D

Omnigraffle is good. Try it for free first.

It makes sense to get the MacBook, rather than the MacBook Pro. If you like it you can then use the money you saved to buy an iMac (£MacBook + £iMac = £MacBook Pro). If you don't like it, you've wasted a lot less money.

This from a guy who's just stayed up all night to watch his PC do a virus scan. ;) (kidding)
