Emergency Braking Indicators

Featured Replies

Been playing around with Vag-Com and the old school 'VWTool' and so far I've:

  • Enabled Anti-hijack (locks car when it goes above 10mph)
  • Enabled Auto-unlock (unlocks drivers door when you take the keys out)
  • Measured Torque, calculated BHP and plotted a graph with the (semi-accurate) results :)

I've had a look around what else you can change on the software and I've heard about 'Emergency Breaking Indicators' (Byte 17, bit 0 if i remember correctly) that flash the brake lights rapidly if you stamp on the brakes - has anyone had any experience with this? Is it worth it, or even legal!?

It comes as standard on some Citroens, so it must be legal. Worth it is another matter. I have heard that spirited late braking will set it off, and that it doesn't cancel when you set off again unless you do something (turn off the ignition?) Those two last things may be malicious rumours, however! :D

is this possible on a Octavia Mk1? also interested with the emergency flashing brake lights. hmmm really need to sort out my VAG COm Cable

Its not 100% legal

Hazard warning lights. These may be used when your vehicle is stationary, to warn that it is temporarily obstructing traffic. Never use them as an excuse for dangerous or illegal parking. You MUST NOT use hazard warning lights while driving or being towed unless you are on a motorway or unrestricted dual carriageway and you need to warn drivers behind you of a hazard or obstruction ahead. Only use them for long enough to ensure that your warning has been observed.

Dunno, my advice would be to beg, borrow or steal a cable and the appropriate software and give it a try! Perhaps have a search in the Octavia part of the forum to see if there's anyone else who's done it.

I thought it was the brake lights that flashed, not the hazards?

Hmmm... might have to set it to 'on' then get someone to follow me to check.

there isnt anything illegal ive even seen ambulances using it on motorways when approching tailbacks. I have it enabled on mine, you have to be literly locking up first for it to work and then it turns itself off when you let off the brakes.

cannot be illegal as the Astra VXR has the flashing brake lights.

But flashing brake lights and hazard warning lights are two completely different things

can flashing brakelights be enabled on the octy 2 then?

Dunno but when my brother's SRI did it I thought it was a dodgy Vauxhall wiring fault  I'm liking the idea of adaptive brake lights that get super bright under heavy braking.

Anti Hi-Jack and and Auto Unlock can be enabled on the MK1 as my vrs does that

Any flashing red lights on the back are a no no, and in fact they are illegal for even the police to use while moving, they should only be used while stationary. They even had to change the law for the Highways agency patrols to use them while stationary. AFAIK only Trumpton (fire brigade) can use flashing reds to the rear while moving.

Steve

The emergency brake flash function uses the turn signals (yellow)... ;)

No, as far as i know, it's not possible on the mk1. The mk2 has a more advanced on board computer system (CAN) then the mk1.
