Pre-remap work required?

Featured Replies

I'm starting to think about getting a remap, the car is 3.5 years old and has done 56k, so a cambelt is due soon. Should I get the cambelt done slightly early and before the remap? The other option would be to get the remap now and sort the cambelt around June when I hit 60k.

Also I've noticed the engine sounds a bit 'burbly' around 3000 rpm, hard to describe but doesn't sound quite as sweet as I'd like. Any ideas what that might be? Other than "you bought a diesel"! :D Performance seems very good at the moment and I'm seeing bugger all smoke since the PD160 went on.

If I were you I'd be inclined to get the cambelt etc done before the remap, for no other reason than it would make me feel better

yes mate i would not risk it and get it done before i know its crap getting the belt done and the cost but a new engine would be worst pal

Yeah, it's what I thought really, common sense. It just means I have to either be patient, or get the 60K service done about three thousand miles early if I want the remap sooner rather than later.

And there's the Eibachs and console bushes to do at some point too.

Mine seems to run slightly better since the cam belt and water pump change....smoother and a smidgen better on fuel. For the sake of £300, get it done both for safety and also as the tuning firm will be dealing with a car that's in tip top condition when fine tuning the map.

I'd also make sure the air filter was spotless, change the oil and fuel filters and give it a damn good thrashing prior to getting it mapped. Makes it prime mapping material. :D

As above, if you are due a cambelt change its worth getting done first, mainly because you will be driving a little harder to test the mapping initially :)

I was under the impression the cambelt needed doing at 40k not 60k, is that right?

Every 60K or 4 years depending on what you hit first.
