Broken Engine?

Featured Replies

My Grandad is currently driving arround in my old Hyundai Getz, 1.4 2006 model with 11.9k on the clock

Im a bit concerned about a noise that it's started making like a rattly/tappety sort of noise, it happens when lifting off the throttle or applying light/partial throttle around town

Iv'e attatched a audio clip, and it is very audible, especially towards the end of the sound clip. It has a 5 year warranty but I really cant spare the time away from work right now to take it in, so I just wanted to know if it was something urgent or just a normal noise that happens with age,

Any advice is greatly appreciated:thumbup:

its fooked, get it to the dealers

Dealership - They should fix it. That sounds really bad mate - Good luck :D

That's not good.

Dealer time

That noise isn't normal and needs attention!

I thought all Hyundai's sounded like that! My dad's had two accent's, a 1.3 and 1.5 (his current one), and both have sounded really rattley. Plus his current one usually takes 2 - 3 times to start (intermittently)! sometimes it starts straight away and sometimes it won't.

I personally think my 10 year old Felicia kicks its a***! Its done nearly twice the mileage as well, I don't know why he doesn't go back to Skodas.

It's booked in for friday morning, so if anyone wants to play "Guess that Sound" Now is the time:D

Iv'e already had loose timing chain and oil starvation suggested

All the stats in the world and a 5 year warranty would disagree with you

I don't think that sounds that ill, but then i'm listening to it through a cheap mono speaker on a lappy.

Sure it needs to see a dealer but I doubt anything fatal.

small end bearings ?

The answer to the noise is:

Probably a Hydraulic Tappet, we don't give a t0ss

If anything on it breaks and leaves my grandad and his (disabled) wife stranded at the roadside, I'll be extremley cross!

So it's fine and within tolerances and therefore not eligible for warranty work?

Well, my theory on it is that our other Getz which is older but has done about the same mileage does not make this noise, but I am happy to accept this verdict and I wouldn't expect it to breakdown anyway but I was a bit concerned

Hyundai's claim is that a Getz has never broken down at the roadside!

I saw one the other week, bonnet up and a large amount of steam boiling out.

Must have just been taking a breather ;)

I don't care whether it's "within tolerance" or not. A hydraulic tappet that makes a noise with thengine hot and idling is not working correctly!

Even performance Hyundais sound rough.

Give it an oil change and get some decent flushing agent put through it.

Fortran (I think that is the company) make one so that might be worth a shot.
