condensation in headlights

Featured Replies

hi all hope i'm in the right place,

i've noticed condesation in my headlight ,only one side. iv'e dried it out twice now but it keeps coming back.

has anyone any solutions or do i have to buy a new lights. there not xenon and the water forms on the front of the lense inside.

any ideas would be helpful

If it's still under warranty take it to a dealer to replace the light cluster. I had to get both of mine done.

I wondered about this as my (xenon) headlamp units would mistup occasionally; mostly on damp mornings in town traffic.

On reading my handbook (somewhere) found out that a degree of misting up is an allowable/designed feature.

Guess there has to be a difference though between 'misting up' and 'water on the inside'.

If out of warranty take out the headlight (like if you were replacing a bulb) and look for the drain tubes, check with a small piece of wire that they are not clogged and make sure they point down.

If that doesn't cure it, you'll just have to apply a thin coat of sealant where different bits of plastic meet. I fixed a friend's bimmer headlights this way after he installed angel eye parking lights.

Mine was definitely just misting but they still got replaced :)

as far as i know, its a known problem, and there is a recall for it. take it into your dealer and see what they say. i know we've done them before.
