Angel remap done!

Featured Replies

Had to do it the hard way as the ECU stopped talking to byteshooter at the local remapper - so it had to be removed and sent to an Angel technician in Cardiff to be reset, flashed and returned

The remapper was very helpful, lent me a vehicle, with fuel in the tank, to tide me over and went the extra mile to get the ECU to the courier depot 530pm on Friday to ensure I would have it back today, Tuesday.

The only down side was a nervous weekend separated from the car hoping that it wasn't a hardware problem - the Angel guys were spot on though - it was just a software issue and quickly resolved.

So far I've pot 80 miles on it, its bloody great!!!:)

I've been protecting the clutch, no beans below 2000 revs, but it is transformed. Before the remap it was great fun in 2nd, good in 3rd but then a bit too refined in 4th to 6th, there is now a grin in every gear.

I've spent a few miles driving deliberately as I did before the remap, on the same roads - looking down at the speedo really shows the extra power - but the torque is king - the pick up is rapid, and there is no perceptible dip after 3000ish as before.

Can anyone explain in more detail the learning process that the ECU is now going through - I'm assuming to get best results the car needs a few 'spirited' drives over the first couple of hundred miles to get the best out of it. Any other advice also welcome - eg is 2000rpm about right for getting busy with the happy pedal?

I guess I ought to put a PD160 intake on, anything else need doing?

your ideas of looking after the clutch by not booting below 2k is good, I'm another happy angel customer :)

I believe the "learning" of the ecu are only small peramiters of change, so not really all that important, but generally it "beds in" after a few days, and tends toward the way you drive it in that time.... but really small peramiters, the big peramiters were changed in the map, to give you all the extra go! enjoy :)

edit: the PD160 mod can only help maximise the remap, cheap and easy, but a tube will rub on the seat part, so tie it up and out of the way

I too have one of these, and it is good. I didn't look after my clutch at first (I enjoyed that boot at 2K too much  ) but changed my style and it seems fine now, no slippage for a month or so.

As for the ecu learning I have noticed that the boost is a little less brutal than it was so that now I don't tend to drive too carefully around the "clutch issue" any more - just enjoy the fun. Or maybe I am getting too much used to it.

You will notice A-roads going much quicker than before and overtakes being far safer - which was my main reason for getting one.

I got an Angel remap a few months ago and have had no problems with the clutch.

And as above, the power delivery is less brutal and much smoother. Only problem with it being smoother is that it doesn't seem as fast sometimes although the speedo tells different stories.

You get a nice bit of torque at low rpm, but not silly amounts. It just keeps on pulling all the way to the red line, and from 3.5-4k it gives a nice kick as if it thinks it a petrol. (the angel guy told me it should drive more like a petrol and like to be revved)

Only problem I got it a vibration in 4th-6th gears at 2k rpm if I floor it. Guessing its the flywheel. If I boot it at 2.2rmp no vibes whatsoever. shame though.

Raced a bloke into work whos got a Bora 130 tdi with a plug in chip and showed him a nice bit of fabia smoke, and yes I know the bora is heavier but the Fabia did get past without too many problems

Out of interest who is the Angel tech in Cardiff ??

Didn't think there was any tuners in Cardiff tbh.

Tis cheap no more mate.....Seat are now charging over £60 for these things due to popularity.

Daft when it's only a plastic tube.

My car had an Angel Map basically from new previous owner mapped it with only 2000 miles on the clock, then traded it in for a SE VRS at 5000 miles. He must have felt flush that week cause think he would have taken a big hit in the pocket there.

Anyway back to the point have had the car for almost a year now it has 29,000 miles of happy motoring on it due to the commute to work, and I have never had an issue with it. :D

Another very happy Angel customer.

With regards to the PD160 intake tbh it did not really need one as it did not tend to smoke that much anyway but does rev more freely.

K & N filter fitted and for some reason seems to be better the more miles I put on it.

The best bit is obviously the huge increase of grunt but I especially like it due to being very smooth which is noticeable around town.

The only downside to getting a remap that I have encountered is you will need new rubber a lot sooner than you think.

Didn't think there was any tuners in Cardiff tbh.

Longlife Exhausts on Ocean Way have an Angel Tuning franchise.

They basically copy the original map, email it to Angel then 30 minutes later Angel email them the 're-map' and they simply upload it onto your car.

So the actual tuning isnt done on site.

Highly reccommended though, i'm chuffed to bits with mine!
