Central locking (not remote) problem.

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a central locking fault too, not the same as the other post, but similar.

When im driving along my locks, keep locking/unlocking continuly, and does the alot, i mean alot..

I read a few post about removing the door panel and removing the central locking elctrical plug and blowing it with compressed air...

I have 2 questions:

1: ive removed the panel, but can disconnect the plug, its quite hard to get your fingers onto it, but i can pull it with force...is that all it needs or is there a clip holding it behind it or something, or are they generally tight?.

2: Does anyone have any other ideas what could be causing this problem with my locks?.

It seems like some sort of electrical fault, loose wire or something.

My car is a skoda octavia 1.9 sdi 2001 estate

Thanks alot for your help.

1. There is a clip! At the back of the plug, uo should be able to slide a flat head screw driver beneath the clip (on the upper side). Pull this clip up as far as possible, and then the plug should come away fairly easily.

2. If it's not corrosion in the plug/ loom connector, it could be a damaged wire in the loom of faulty central convenience unit in the door.

Excellent.

Thank you for that.

If it is a fault in that unit, do youknow a place to buy a new one at a good price please?.

Am i right in thinking that this plug is in the right hand corner by the lock..

I am still having trouble disconnecting it..

From what i see you pull the bottom part of the black box downward but im having trobule parting them. I cant see the clip that well that hold them together.

A picture of were the clip is would be a great help please.?

Thanks

not this one, the unit thats at fault is actually built in to the window motor in the drivers door, its a seperate unit that slides into the window motor and plugs in to the loom that comes up from the bottom of the door. from memory, its fairly near the actual middle of the door as you look at it

theres a guide here

VWvortex Forums: DIY - Replacing the front door window regulator clips and/or door lock module

its for a different car but the photos in step 13 and 14 show the unit that youre after, there are clips all over the place but the plug tends to be quite free so if you meet any resistance when unplugging, look for more clips rather than use force. and have a bucket ready to catch all the murky water that will otherwise end up in a puddle at the bottom of the door!

I had to get new central lock interface thats clipped in to the window reg, £150 notes as no one sold it seperate.

Its a really good place to put it upside down in a door that will most likely have some water at some point in side which of course will eventually run down over the part and then eventually pass thru the seal and cause a electrical short and no end of problems, esspecially over nite in a gale when the damn windows come down soaking the newly cleaned interior right thru, not being able to pull out fuses as this still doesn't stop the windows operating themselves as they run thru a control unit in the dash that operates other systems at the same time which of course can go faulty aswell.

Ye great design really fantastic.

Hi,

Ive got the door in bits and all ive got is a connector in the top right corner by the lock, and no more connections at all anywhere else..

I dont have electric windows, does this make any difference?.

The door is fairly empty and not many connections.

If you want a photo i can see what i can do?..

Cheers

/bump..

anyone have anymore ideas, were this connector could be for me please?

If you dont have elecy windows you are very lucky as you wont have the regulator combined unit in the middle of the door, i would reccommend getting a lock unit (located at door lock end) from a scrappie as plenty older ones used as taxis go there and alot are of your type, but other than that i don't know sorry.

Good luck

Leaking rear washer pipe and the water is getting absorbed by the foam pad in the tailgate that is over the electrical connections to stop them from rattling. When you disconnect them they will be a little corroded but a clean up should sort them. Don't forget to look at the pipe where it joins the jet in the high level brake light.

Thanks,

Would you have any idea on how to remove this at the rear or the car?

cheers

At the top of the tailgate pull the top trim off then the two side trims, leave the passenger side one to hang on the wiring loom. The main trim pulls off but they are on quite tight and you may need someone to hold the tailgate while you pull it. There is a risk of cracking the trim. The brake light is held in with metal clips on springs, pull them up and push the clips back to release, thw washer jet pushes into the brake light.Whilst there it may be worthwile to replace the number plate bulbs, 12V 5W capless (501 type I think).

I have an 05 which has this problem i have had to have a new unit in the door because the other one fell apart this didnt cure it they then did away with the double tap system since then it has only done it twice in 6 months so suspect a fault between the key lock and unit electrical signal fault.

Thanks for all the help.

Ive stripped down the boot now and the joins there looked good as new, even the one wrapped in a foam strip.

So as of yet its still not fixed. i havent put the car together yet so i can keep delving.

But any more ideas would be great..

Once again thanks for all your inputs

Be great to fix this, im sure then it will give others a bit more.

Thanks
