In the options book it said £350 for the esp , drums do look naff but there function is not dissimilar to discs PLUS no brake dust !!!! Eventually i'm getting 17 inch black alloys to match the roof.

why? when you brake the weight goes to the front of the car? when you park allot of cars have drums inside the disks to use, so don't use the disks then either!

Yeah good point about the parking. It's actually better having drums for this. Thus I applaud the VAG approach, of the small set of parking drums incorporated in the rear disk assemblies!!! Skip this solution & you get allot of parked cars rolling away. Seem to remember a good few years back when I think GM introduced rear disks to their fleet. Then San Fransisco owners were shortly filing claims of faulty design!!! Besides put your hand brake on hard after heating the disks up & they'll be so warped you'll think they're drums...

unless you've got serious power and therefore have things like ESP, i don't think you need disks at the rear.

ESP isn't a power related need. I believe the ESP system hasn't been designed to work with outdated technology!

unless you've used both back to back how do you know disks at the rear make any difference at all?

It's not so much how quickly they'll stop you. As from cold the drum setup will at least match it's disk rival. It's how quickly the drums can overheat. Where's the disks will help you keep your cool much longer... Besides can't stand that spongy truck like feel!

is this true?! if it is, then a great step forward for road saftey..... but I haven't heard it anywhere.... may I ask where this info came from?

Sorry didn't realize that my profile on here as opposed to on Seat-Cupra.net doesn't show I'm currently living in Israel...

Thus our M.O.T. is trying to finalize this bill to make it law. Might get pushed back to 2010-2012 to coincide with when NHTSA in the US makes it required there as well.

Do recall some talk of the EU fazing this in. Yet don't recall off hand if the UK was going to beat them to the punch or fight it...

I think you get rear disc brakes thrown in when you spec ESP.

Rear brakes only on the 3 when you order ESP as an option! I ordered my 3 estate with ESP, then was told it would be 2 months lead time as it needs to be built for me, so I have gone for the Drum brakes as I can have one March 1st!!! And saved 340 quid in the process!

well your country is making muchbetter laws than ours then..... our insurance companies (statistical databases) state that 30-70% of fatal accidents would be avioded if ESP was standard... yet our goverment will insist on spending millions of £'s onspeed cameras (in the excuse of road safety) because it makes them billions £'s in fines... one simple law 50% of fatal accidents saved..... bloody polititions! proves that its all about money

believe me, £340 will be well spent if you find yourself hitting a diesel spill on a dark corner one night........ then heading for the hedge......... I'd wait, and have the ESP....

I wouldn't go so far they've just passed & approved funding for at least 50 new speed camera's:finger:. When getting them to put the 1st traffic light our local council has now took more than 40 years. Oh in the last year alone 3 fatalities occurred at this intersection one of them a doctors husband while she was driving! You know why they didn't put in a roundabout?! Cuz roundabouts don't get standard red light cameras!!!:soapbox:

lol... at least we're not alone then ;) I try and hide my soapbox if I can ;)

Sorry any self respecting Auto from well before Y2K would've been spec'd out with Disks all the way around!!!:orb_slediThis is just about what drum breaks will do 4 ya...:amb:

No, it will just teach you how to drive.

I own a car with drums all round and that stops just fine, even after track sessions.

It's all proportional. The rear brakes are hardly used on the Roomster.

You could always badge up the car with the green and red from ebay or dealer.

badging up your car is the equivilant of shoving socks down your pants. don't do it!

The lowest of the low.

Hello all, I have just had a intercooler fit, k & N induction kit, Dump valves and remap done and the car is totally a different car. It's a Fabia VRS

Just to let you all know I am having new brakes made at the moment in italy and will be fitted to my vrs fabia in next couple of weeks for my new 17 inch wheels.

i know its not technically power related, but all vrs octys have esp as standard, where as the lower powered fab sport doesnt. its a damn fine saftey feature, but unlesss you are drving the car hard in the first place (or heading onto a track) discs dont add mucha to the braking. not usre what you mean by outdated tech. ive got a friend who updated his vx to have esp. his car had got discs at the back, but that has now got esp when i dont think esp was offered at allon that particualar model.

ive also driven the fab and roo 1.9tdi models, and the difference in brake pedal feel is barely noticable. baring in mind the roo had esp and the fab hasnt even got ASR, the stopping power seems so close as to not matter. the abs does its work and after having some muppet pull out on me along a 40mph stretch the fab's brakes cetainly do what they need too! :D

its a damn fine safety feature, but unless you are driving the car hard in the first place (or heading onto a track)...

Well now you get me I want this capability there when & if I decide to use it!!!:rally:
