Green Top Temp Sensor

Featured Replies

Hi folks.

Are the newer style g0reen topped temp sensors prone to failing ?

Mine is playing up, and i peeked under the bonnet to see how easy it would be to change, and noticed it's already a green one, so must've either came with it, or the original black has failed at somepoint.

Which now makes me think it could be the thermostat again.

Anyone had a broken green one ?

Hi,

My black sensor failed, did the green replacement, 6k miles on, so far so good (touching wood), so no to your question.

Its easy to do tho' if you remember to remove the old 'o' ring seal as well (cough cough) before fitting the new one.

Peter

Did you get a fault code Johnny?

I have one but have never fitted it!

What problems are you having?

Temp guage is all over the place, one minute it's at 90, then it drops right down to 50ish, then within seconds will jump back up.

More recently it's not even been rising to 90 unless i'm in traffic.

Sounds like your sender.

They are designed to sit at 90 as a comfort zone. The engine does fluctuate above and below 90 but it stays at 90 to keep you happy. Unless like yours its knackered

It does sound like temp sensor then.

Has that been changed?

As far as i know, the pump was done with the belt.

If the pump was on it's way out, would the temp not go up ? Rather than be low.

Hi!

Have also changed to a green one, and have done 40k since.:)

It is worth mentioning that this fault will turn up on a diagnostic search, so if it turns up that its not broken you have to search elsewhere...
