100/80w headlight bulbs.

Featured Replies

Does anyone know if the standard switches/wiring is up to coping with 100/80w headlamp bulbs, I think the switches should be rated at 20amps to handle them.

They'll be illegal for road use. Don't know if they'll do any dmage or not but the person who owned my old Integra before me replaced the bulbs with 100w ones and they melted the loom and connectors after a while.

My advice would be to just buy some decent standard bulbs, I've got Nightbreakers, I think they're Phillips, I'm very impressed with them.

Thanks for that, I thought I may be pushing my luck, will look for alternative.

Loads of people have run high wattage bulbs in the Octy's without problem. As above though you may get better light output from some +80/+90% 55W bulbs.

I ran Osram 100/80w bulbs for quite a while and because I'm in a remote area often on main beam. Had no problems and passed MOT. However lighting was not that brilliant canged to Phillips vision plus bought from Powerbulbs and the difference was like night and day!

Not sure of exact type of Phillips bulbs it was the type that won Autoexpress test. I think you can access the test on Autoexpress website.

Not a problem, Ive runner higher than that for about 3 years

Thumbs up for Osram Nightbreakers... very very good bulbs

I use Osram Nightbreakers as main beam and Halfords Super Brilliance +50% as dips on the Superb and find they are nearly as good as the Xenons on the Octy. Definately recomended. Look out for 2 for 1 offers.

I ran them in my MKI with no problems. Just ensure they are adjusted correctly :)

As I already have a set then I may as well give them a try, but not yet as I still only have 3 cylinders! (see other thread).

Thanks for the feedback.
