Too many miles?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've been after an Octavia diesel estate for a while. Seen a 55 plate Elegance advertised.

Only worry is it's got nearly 60k miles on the clock. Should this put me off a 2-year-old car?

Anything I should look out for if I go to see it?

Ad says it has balance of manufacturer's warranty - any idea how long that is?

Many thanks in advance,

S

Warranty is 60K miles or 3 years from first date of registration and is whichever comes first.

If you're buying from a skoda dealer you'll get a years warranty anyway. Otherwise as said the warranty is up.

60k isn't a lot for a diesel if it's been looked after. If it's done 30k a year on motorways those are relatively easy miles for a car.

Obviously the amount of miles should be reflected in the price but that's not a huge amount of miles for a diesel, or any modern car come to that.

Wouldn't think this would put anyone off. It's not enough miles to have been a taxi, so prob motorway miles so as said before it's easy miles

IIRC there is some routine maintenance at 80k or 4 years whichever comes soonest, inc cambelt change.

As you say the ad says balance of warranty, is this a private purchase or a dealer. If private have you considered an AA or RAC person to look it over?

A neighbour of mine has a 55 plate estate, with 90,000 miles on the clock, which he got for a song.

It looks annoying similar to my new one, which I got for a bomb!

I guess a lot depends on the driver. The TDIs are quite bombproof in my opinion, whether the 1.9 or the 2.0 which is reliable at 170bhp and effectively de-tuned to 140bhp.

I would check the services were done on time, sorry if that's obvious.

Not too many miles for a diesel - provided price reflects that. That kind of mileage suggests lots of, relatively, easy motorway work.

London Les.......How much did your neighbour pay for it?

Only reason my 2.0 TDI Elegance is coming to the end of its lease in June. It will be 3.5 years old with 90k on the clock, although engine replaced at 52k but thats another story.
