S3 Maf sensor?

Featured Replies

What are the benefits of fitting an Audi A3 S3 maf sensor? I'v got hold of one but dont want to fit it just yet, as i'm not sure of the implications. My car is a standard turbo but 2.75" exhaust sport cat and custom map. Plus carbonio and forge 007 DV. Cheers for any help.

Darren

Tbh there's none that I could think of as I think the S3 one is for when more air needed i.e. BIG turbo. As always though I may wrong

Pointless with the stock turbo TBH.

You would also need a bigger T.I.P as the S3 MAF is much bigger in diameter.

Steve:)

Try it.

I replaced my cigarette lighter with one from and Audi S4 and the difference is amazing. Handling and ride are improved immeasurably, fuel consumption has dropped and performance is just in another league.

Isn't it amazing how much difference you can make fitting an almost identical part from a more expensive brand in the family stable.

I'm getting a hint of sarcasm! :P

In all seriousness, if you need to flow more air due to having a big turbo, sure the S3 maf has its place as its slightly larger in diameter.

If you have a standard turbo I see little benefit tbh.

TW AT.

do you actually have any idea what the difference is? no i didn't think so :thumbdwn:

the S3 uses a 3" maf which is bigger than the standard one on the vRS/elegance 1.8T and so by changing the the turbo inlet pipe/maf/airbox you get a less restrictive inlet tract which is of benefit to a car fitted with a bigger turbo but possibly of no real benfit to a car running the standard turbo.

No need for the swearing there.

No need for the swearing there.

what swearing??

The word Tw at has various meanings, dependent upon regional dialect. Although its meaning in British English is usually that of 'idiot' or 'stupid/idiotic/tasteless' (male person).

but the guy did seem to acting the tw*t

so according to the wikipedia description i called him a stupid/idiotic male person, is that not accurate for the above post?

I imagine that bengie is an American as he doesn't understand `irony'.

What I was trying to point out was that mearly fitting the S3 MAF Sensor - which is basically a measuring device - without the all the other S3 changes, (new piston pins, connecting rods, bearings and stiffened block plus the new cylinder head, bigger injectors and revised exhaust cam timing as well as the bigger turbocharger and intercooler). you're as likely to see an improvement as I am with my cigarett lighter. In fact I'll be better off as the cigarette lighter won't hamper my performance while a MAF Sensor calibrated for what is essentialy a different engine most certainly will.

Must go now, I'm fitting a Bugatti Veyron horn to the old bus this morning.

i am neither American nor do i an irony deficiency, quite the opposite, my reply was simply because you sounded like a tw at :) (or should that be twot phonetically speaking?)

and why would you need new rods/pistons/block(even though the S3 uses the same block)/head(i think again it uses the same head) and cam timing??

the injectors go hand in hand with the turbo and as i already stated this is the time when the bigger MAF *might* be worthwhile.

where is the irony in ignoring the FACT that the part is clearly different and uprated as opposed to a fag lighter which is a parts bin special????

changing the maf will be of most benefit with a larger turbo, at the same time as long as the car is mapped correctly it will be a small benefit even with a stock turbo - the issue that the TIP changes at the smae time will also be of benefit as the std K03 tip is a poor design.

You might need all the above, because they are the changes that Audi fit as standard to the S3 to achieve it's power output. In other words, they consider that to reliably achieve the specific power output of the engine without encountering warranty issues they needed to engineer it properly. There We Are Then.:)

Chill out, I don't take me seriously, - neither do my wife and kids - and you shouldn't either.

you don't need it all for 300bhp :)

So what’s the general consensus then...........:rofl::rofl:

I think Darren needs to fit the bigger turbo :D

but the S3 came with 210BHP, and you can get a boggo A4 1.8T with 183BHP - do you really think the A4 is within 30BHP of worrying it's warranty? What about the IHI'd Octavias etc with 300BHP on standard internals that run all day long without issue?

In fact the 2007 Audi S3 has 261 BHP. God I'm pedantic.

Back to the painting, hallway if you're interested.
