A couple of Bluetooth questions

Featured Replies

Stu fitted my Bluetooth (along with Maxidot) on Saturday - many thanks Stu

As I've been playing with it I've got a couple of questions -

1) How long does it normally take for the phone to be recognised? With my phone switched on and bt active, it seems to take around 2½-3 mins once the ignition has been switch on for it to be recognised.

2) I haven't yet been able to get the phone book transfered - Does anyone know what the phonebook is linked to - it it the phone or the simcard? The reason I ask is I thought I'd dig out my old phone, pop my current sim card into that and see of the phonebook transfers - then I may be able to use that phonebook with my new phone.

3) How many phonebook entries can the unit hold? And what happens when it's reached it's limit - do you get an error message?

NW,

1) Mine connects in circa 30secs to 1 minute.

2) Is your phone Nokia symbian type, in which case see this bit which comes from Stu's website...

Some of the newer Nokia phones such as the N95 use Symbian Operating System which doesn't seem to like interfacing with Car Kits in general. There is a workaround which will allow you to view contacts on your Maxidot or RNS510 if fitted.

1. Download Nokia 810 Contact Download Application for Nokia S60 3rd edition devices and install it using Nokia PC Suite.

2. Remove all pairing to the car kit from the phone.

3. Make sure Bluetooth is turned off on the phone.

4. Sit in the car with the ignition on so that the Bluetooth kit is switched on.

5. Run the Contact Download Application on the phone.

6. Follow the prompts to enable the Bluetooth and connect to the car.

7. The contacts will be transferred to the car, this may take a couple of minutes.

Sadly it doesn't provide the dialled, received and missed calls list but at least you'll have some functionality.

3) No idea! Stu will be along in a mo!

No - sorry I should have said it's a HP iPaq6915 (Windows based smartphone).

I'd say Tony (fluffmeister) would be a good man to ask about the smart phone situation.
