Rear wash poor, but working

Featured Replies

I know theres plenty out there about the rear wash failing, but mine still works a bit. Front is perfect. Does anyone know what may have happened? Are these wash pumps dual pumps ie front good, back bad in my case? It has got worse over a year and a bit, now it wouldnt pass an MOT. Thanks.

The hose has probably popped off partially where it joins the washer jet iside the tailgate. You will most likely find water running out of the drain holes in the bottom of the tailgate when you try to wash the rear window.

You will need to remove the lower trim inside the tailgat to re-connect it.

There is another joint in the pipe on the passenger side, under the C pillar trim at the side of the rear seat back.

Bet you can't guess how I know this.

I cant guess. But it all sounds like a bloody nightmare to fix. Anyone tell me how difficult it is to access this hose. Also, do you mean boot when you say tailgate? Im northern irish! Also, what is a c pillar? Thanks!

I will post a picture tonight. :)

There are three points.

1. Under the airbox, (model depending) or at the near side (passenger side) of the engine bay, prone to the washer hose popping off. Just before the hose enters through the bulhead.

2. As sayed, along the near side rear quarter pannel under the boot carpet at the side, where the boot light is.

3. At the rear washer pump itself, under the tailgate trim. If it has been like this for a year you would have probably noticed the "Boot open" light being displayed.

Just reconnect the hose, usually holding it together with a small clip/ cable tie (if your really struggeling).

Best bet is to try under the boot carpet at the rear quarted first, then the passenger side of the engine bay, then finelly at the washer itsself.

Use pleany of Screenwash so the water in your pipes wont freeze up and expand.

This WILL pass an MOT, Rear washer/ wiper is not needed for a ticket!

And one of the screws is behind the boot lamp for the panel

Thank you all. It was the hose connection feeding into the washer / wiper at the tailgate that was loose. Does anyone know how to put the trim back? It is murder trying to get it to fit!

Hi Silvergun1

I've got the same problem with my Fabia hatchback.

I'd appreciate information on how you got the tailgate lining off...and back on again!

Hi. I just pulled gently at an edge to get the trim off. I have not yet got it on again! I need a good bit of time at it. The problems seem to be both sides are difficult to affix at once, if you know what I mean. One at a time is easy, but that doesnt do the job. I may get someone to help me hold one in place with a set of vice grips while I affix the other. I will keep you posted when get it back on!
