Persistant ECU Problems - VRS TDI estate

Featured Replies

:(

Basically just before christmas my dad brought an ex-demo vrs tdi estate with 5k on the clock.

I drive a mk1 leon fr tdi and my dad has always been quite impressed with my cars performance and economy although he personally couldn't have a leon as he needs a bigger boot. So when it came to him getting a new car i recomended he looked at the new octavia vrs tdi estate. He loved it, and signed on the dotted line.

Since buying the car in mid december it has spent most of its life in the skoda garage as there have been persistant problems with the cars engine management. The Glow plug warning light and exhaust gases light would come on regularly on the dash and put the car into limp mode. In its various trips to the garage it has had a new ecu and as far as i can gather about every single sensor changed........twice!!!. But the problem is still there.

Anyway we finally got the car back two days ago as it was fixed, but within 1 day the problem was back.

Understandably dad was pi**ed off and took the car back to the dealer and told them he was not happy and no longer wanted THIS car, and that he wanted it to be replaced with a different one, as he stilled wanted another one, but just one that worked properly!!!

In skodas credit they were very understanding and completly agreed that there was something seriously wrong with this particular car and have agreed to find him anotherone which we are now waiting for. This was perticularly good as the car had done more miles since we brought it than the normal return policy stats.

Skoda have been very helpful with the whole saga and are doing their best to sort out the problem.

Sorry about the long story but my question is has anyone else come across a persistant problem like this before with the pd170 engine??

Im an mk1 owner, so cant help sorry.

Just wanted to welcome you to the forum, and a great 1st post.

Hello and welcome.

The PD170 is generally OK but there are the usual amount of problems that you can get with any engine, the diesel particulate filter can be a bit of an issue as the car needs to be driven a certain way to enable the filter to regenerate or it fills up with soot and causes problems but this is not what you would call a common problem.

Overall most people seem to be happy with the car and the engine, my wife has one and it's never missed a beat.

It's good news that Skoda have offered a replacement vehicle which will no doubt restore your Dad's faith in the brand (hopefully!) as he obviously has a lemon on his hands.

Keep us posted on the progress and maybe push for a free service due to the huge inconvenience with the car.

No problems with mine in just under 10000 miles since September, well I have a side light bulb that needs replaced!

From what you have said I would think they are a couple of common problems which have been covered by Service Bulletins.

Unless it is more sinister I'm surprised they've struggled to fix it.

just heard from skoda today and they have found two cars that my dad can have which is good news!

the car he is going to get is also silver but it has done more than 5k miles LESS than 'the broken one'!

it is has a much nicer spec list as it comes with 18 inch alloys, duel climate control, jumbo box and electric windows alround. the old car didn't have any of these!

the dealer have also said that if my dad doesn't like the harder ride that the 18's give then he can have the 17's off 'the broken one'!

all this for just an extra £700, which i think is a very good deal. oh and the new car is an 07 as opposed to an 06 plate.

everything should be orted out within the next 10 days and they have given my dad a octavia 2.0 tdi 140 estate to use in the mean time. its not as quick as the vrs but is still a great car!

just thought i would let you all know how good skoda have been with regards to everything!

Which dealer was it. People are really quick to name and shame bad ones.

Can you name a praise this one ?

Sounds like a good result to me, oh and keep the 18's

No, you need 17s... ;)

A very good result.

Perhaps you could take the time to make an entry in the dealer section.

Indeed, every make has the odd lemon, its how the issues are dealt with that makes or breaks the ownership experience.

Excellent result indeed, fingers crossed the new one serves him well! :)

Sounds like a great result and it is nice to hear some positive comments rather than a moan!!

Quite comforting to hear that things have turned out ok, well done all round!
