What is this socket (laptop)?

Featured Replies

I was upgrading the ram in my laptop (acquired a donor) and came across this socket. (The top one, the other empty one is a ram socket, I know that much!)

What is that used for?

I've never seen one before.

Could it be graphics??

Wireless network card, the little cable taped down is the antenna connection.

Thanks!

You would probably be able to track one down on ebay easily enough... belive its a mini pci socket.

Last time i looked there were tones of em... mostly for specific laptop brands etc.

I've got a PCMCIA(?) in the side so I don't need one. I was just wondering what it was. Maybe a more expensive model came with one as standard.

Yeh... they do tend to do that... have a base on which all models are based upon then obviously just up the components or add as the case may be.

At least you can sleep easy at night now... knowing that you know what it is!! lol

I would change the pcmcia one for an internal one anyday, just think nothing sticking out of the side to get in the way. And no need to constantly unplug it before putting it in the laptop bag.

And while you're at it... get another stick of ram in there! lol

as manny said and *probably* get a better signal from the internal one as they tend to have the antenna all round the screen :)

YOu want a mini PCI card. Think I might have a dell truemobile one at home which I changed for an intel one if you wanted it cheap.

Depends how cheap!!

Also, I don't have any money until the end of the month.

I'm in no rush and let me locate the card so I can get the model number. It's a 802.11 B/G device , but cheap as I want rid.
