Best wax for Race blue vRS MKII

Featured Replies

I'm awaiting delivery of my Octavia and want to stock up on a few bits to keep it looking good so I was wondering which wax etc. would be best for race blue?

Also, I want to give it a good clean after I take collection but don't fancy going through the whole 'claying' process, is there a simpler way of getting rid of whatever the dealer has put on it before waxing? I've heard of some stuff called 'detailing spray' but am unsure of what this is.

What is recommended for keeping the vRS seats in top condition? With 9 and 7 year olds I think I will need to clean from time to time.

Cheers

I'm in no way an expert in 'detailing' but am currently using the following on my Storm Blue estate :

- CG All In One Polish

- CG Wet Mirror Finish

- CG XXX Wax

This combination gives an excellent deep shine to the paint - whether they would be suitable on the race blue is anyones guess?

You could try looking at A world for detailers... or CleanYourCar.co.uk - Index

I would definately use a clay to start with! The dealers use horrible stuff and its so hard to get off without cleaning it about 20 times. my friend just bought a new golf mk5, he had the same trouble so he gave the car to me for a few hours and he couldn't believe the finish. I use Poorboys on all of mine and my partners cars and wouldn't have anything else. Let me know if you'd like me to put you in touch with my supplier - great prices!

I'm afraid you would need to clay it to get all the rubbish off - well worth doing.

Wax wise, budget sets what you will want to use. If I were you, try some of the Swissvax range - you would need a cleaner oil and then the wax. The Best of Show is apparently very good, but £100+

Me personally? Zymol all the way :) (But arm and a leg stuff!).

Another vote for using clay so you don't waste all your effort.

Get something to start off with like Meguiars Quick Clay - easily available.

Wash car - clay - wash car and dry. Recommend a wax like Zymol Cleaner Wax.

Good shine, reasonable durability, easy to apply and remove. Smells nice too.

After using this you may like to try one of their wax only products like Zymol Creme wax.

Collinite for me in the Winter

Swissvax in the summer

I've heard a LOAD of great things about Collinite - super durable.

I've heard of quite a few keen detailers telling their dealer not to give the car any treatment before collection.

No reason you shouldn't do this, and it will make it easier to get it back to a good starting point for waxing

Totally agree with Andy, get something in writing from them too, just to make sure.... I have heard of dealers saying they won't touch it, and lo and behold, someone washes it and causes scratches and swirls!

I used Autoglym Super Resin polish followed by a couple of coats of the Extra Gloss Protection on my Race Blue estate back in September and it still washes to a deep, high shine.

It's often available at Halfrauds on their three for two deals, so works out pretty cheap.

You could try a colour-charged wax like Dodo Juice Purple Haze (soft wax) or Dodo Juice Blue Velvet (hard wax).

I can vouch for the colli 476s, it's has lasted all through the winter for me with no touch up work with a small exception where a large bird had relieved itself and I topped it up in that area just in case.

I'm thinking of giving the hard dodo's a go for the summer :)

You could even layer both a hard and a soft Dodo Juice wax - it's recommended on Detailing World, but never tried it meself.

the hard wax soft wax thing is something I do to certain cars.

Firstly add the collinite, either 476s or 915.

then use a soft wax over this, and just re-layer the soft wax every couple of months. Works very well and performs good too
