Windows Home Server

Featured Replies

Anyone here running? Thoughts/annoyances/feedback welcome :)

Tempted to throw it on a spare box here - the auto backup and remote login sound especially interesting...

Cheers,

Steve

I thought about it, but I use a unix box as my main server for most things (including file serving), but before I was running 2K3 anyway.

I am sure there is or soon will be a very good and 'free' linux equivalent to windows home server. I use CentOS 5 for my home server, i cant see me changing for a watered down windows server.

EDIT: Looks like this may be a good contender.. Axentra™ :: Products : HipServ™

Thought that machine was destined for a friend? :P

That's well established now mate, don't worry :)

You don't think I'd give him one of mine did you?

No, got a Shuttle coming to the end of main PC life and a Quad Core based model is calling. Might as well make use of it and I already have another one in use as a Media Centre

Hey Steve - I have everything connected to my unix box.

I think if your starting out it's best to work with MWHS as suggested above.

If you feel like going guns blazing.... :D Unix is your man

What flavour you runnning Rob ? I've got Solaris 10 X86 with a few zones for different stuff.
