second gear clunk help

Featured Replies

hi everyone my first to second gear is a little clunky especially when cold what could tis be or just standard mine has been remapped

Not sure if it's just me but I have real difficulty in reading your posts?

Anyway, grammar aside, mine is also 'baulky' when cold. A few gear changes later and it's fine. Characteristic of the car IMO. ;)

awesome mate few looks like it normal then lol

If it gets on your nerves too much, you can have the linkages adjusted. Very occasionally, my wife's car won't go into 1st, but it's so rare she just puts it into 2nd and it goes straight in after that...

Mine does the same when it is cold, so don't worry about it mate.

Mine was really bad when cold, i put it down to clutch drag.

I bled the hydraulic system when i did the fluid change its so much better, in fact mine doesnt clunk at all now :D

THANKS EVERYONE fewwy!!!!

My vRS, from new, was crunchy into 2nd when cold, then when warm was difficult to engage into 1st or 2nd. After two years of Skoda dealers talking out of their backsides and trying to fob me off I had an independent inspection done, confirming the fault. One gearbox rebuild later under warranty and it is now a normal VW 6 speed gearbox, i.e. it only crunches into 2nd when cold. My friends A3and TT are exactly the same, and it is one of the reasons that I bought a Toyota in November, their 6 speed gearbox is a peach.

Gearbox oil change can help.

Original Skoda stuff very cheap too.
