04 RS factory fit alarm sensitivity

Featured Replies

Anyone know if it's possible to alter the factory alarm sensitivity with VAG Com?

I live at the top of a hill, which gets hit by strong winds fairly regularly. The last few nights have been pretty windy, and my car alarm has been activated a couple of times, most notably at 4am this morning. I tried blowing out dust from the interior monitor sensor, but the problem returned. I also tried covering the sensor, but alarm still sounded.

I then started to wonder if the alarm has a motion sensor in it. With the wind being gusty, I think the car is getting blown about a bit.

Does anyone know if it's possible to turn down (or even off) the motion sensor... if it has one?

My 16 month old girl, and my wife, and I, would be very grateful:)

Bump!

I didn't think the Mk1 Octavia had a factory fit alarm, i thought they were dealer fit aftermarket?

I have factory fit on my '54 VRS. I added internal sensors after!

I'm pretty sure it's a factory fit as opposed to dealer.

I'm guessing nobody can help :(

I guess I'll just have to troll my way through VAG Com and see if there is an option to reduce sensitivity.

I think it was just Irish ones that had alarms fitted as standard(no wise cracks or smart *** comments required).

Arnie once lifted a car to an angle of 30 degrees to make one switch off in Twins, any steep hills around?

Wish mine had an alarm(don't tell any thieves). Anybody got any ideas on good after market ones or original retrofits?

I don't think it was standard fit...... my 02 RS didn't come with one standard. The 04 one I have now was ordered by a friend of mine to come with an alarm, rain sensing wipers, cruise control, and climatronic a/c.

Thanks for the tip about the steep hills... If it keeps happening, I might just try that ;)

On my 02 RS, I got a cobra alarm fitted. Worked fine.

Would the control unit be dodgy? my factory fit on the mk2 has been replaced twice. The mk1 alarm never gave any trouble on mine. I think dealers know feck all about them as there was very little sold with them, also most dealers are opting for a aftermarket alarm so they have someone else to hand over issues to.

Maybe send VRStu a PM and he might be able to help.

My vRS WRC has the factory alarm. You can alter the sensitivity but it's not done with VAG COM.

You need to remove either the Climatronic panel or the ash tray (by ash tray, I don't just mean the insert, I mean the full lot... including the door). You may need to remove both, it depends on the size of your hands I guess. Behind these two there's a little black box with a screw on the front. Turning the screw one way increases the sensitivity, turning it the other, decreases it. I can't remember which way is which but it's written on the box anyway.

Removing the climate panel and ash tray is easy... If you needed to remove them both then the whole job including putting it all back together shouldn't take much more than 20 minutes.

Update: I never got round to trying the above, and recently the car alarm has been going off in the middle of the night again. So I got VAG Com onto the case, and disabled the interior monitoring. So far so good.

It has however, got me to thinking about a common link between the original post, and the recent re-occurance. Two common factors are an ambient outside temperature of approx. 0 deg C, and very wet weather. Could the alarm issues be a sign of water ingress in the central convenience controller?

I had the loom and central convenience controller replaced 2 years ago due to water ingress. I know the alarm is linked in with the central convenience system, and am hoping it's not happening again.
