cambelt renewal 1.6 petrol

Featured Replies

my local garage says cambelt needs replacing at 40,000 intervals but in my service book can only find reference to diesel engine belt change at 40,000, the belt was changed at 60,000 by Skoda dealer, who is right?

40000 miles seems a bit low. Your Skoda garage should know. Ring them asking to speak to service. I changed my 1.9 tdi at 80000.

Best to change @ 40k and change the water pump at the same time.

I do my TDi at 60k

According to the dealer I bought my car from (Parkside) they're due every 80,000 miles. But I wouldn't wait that long at all.

I'll be doing my again in 36-40k.

Cheers

Craig

None of them are right.

40000 miles is too low for a 1.6, I think that they originally specified 80000 for the AEE engine and this isn't correct now.

What the garages should be saying is a time or mileage, for which the current thinking is 60000 miles OR 4 years - whatever occurs first.

Better to be safe than sorry, and the way I drive my 1.6 I'll be replacing mine in 40,000miles time!

So by the time I'll have replaced it, it will have done 45,000 miles. :)

Mine (TDi) was done in the late 50_000s, probably because it was actually asking for an inspection then anyway.
