Interior lights fault.

Featured Replies

All my interior ligts have suddenly failed.

I thought that maybe if 1 bulb goes all 3 tripped? ( 1 in front 2 in boot).

I checked all 3 and they are fine, so i thought maybe the fuse, checked those and fine also..

Any ideas?

You haven't had someone fiddling around with the switch and turned them all off?

ive got the same problem with my dash lights and all the interior switch lights, also checked fuses, think it must be a earth problem some where.

That's possible in theory, but I'd not have expected them to all use the same earthing point. Particularly if we're considering 2 or more of front courtesy light(s) [Elegance spec, so I'd expect vRS, SLXi and L&K, and maybe anything with a standard or factory option sunroof, has a courtesy light and 2 map lights at the front], rear courtesy lights (not normally switched to the door openings but can be; use the search for more details on how) over the rear passenger doors, boot lights and panel lights!

I went round to another member's house last night to code some keys in using VAG-COM. When we sat in the car (1.9tdi elegance I believe) the interior lights switched off (all three - front and both rear). None of them would work manually or from the door.

We assumed the fuse had gone for whatever reason so just continued and coded in the keys as planned. Afterwards I did a fault scan and the central convenience unit had one fault of something like "interior light circuit. Unknown switch position - intermittent"

I cleared the fault and Simon checked the fuse - which was fine. After that the lights worked again? I don't know if they were 'cured' by the fuse being pulled out for a few seconds or by me clearing the code.

I know that the interior light uses the same fuse as the central locking, but we hadn't started work when the light went out so it's not related to us coding keys.

Sorry, this isn't much help... but maybe this cure would work for you too?

The only other thing I can think is that there was something amiss with the switch in the door lock, which was corrected by opening and closing the door? I’m clutching at straws with that one, though.
